ocr of textbook but retain structure information?

Goal: book -> xml which contains text and structure information (such a section hierarchy, paragraphs, and heading information) I'm not sure such software even exists. Theoretically the information is there: font-size/special ornaments would designate section information, multiple columns should be ...

Re: Tips on lighting/camera settings

I don't really know your setup. I use two cheap halogens from home depot. They are shop-lamp styles with big dome reflectors. Daniel has some videos out there (on youtube I think) showing how it's important that your light be high enough and bright enough, or else you get a double reflection problem...

Re: keep the 'active page' button DISABLED???

Ok thanks for your reply. I just wanted to be clear. When you said 'KEYBOARD WAY to keep the button disabled' I wanted to make sure everyone knows I really don't care about the WAY it is disabled (keyboard, mouse, editing a text file, etc., .etc.) as long as it stays disabled WHEN USING the keyboard...

Re: keep the 'active page' button DISABLED???

Well keyboard or setting, it doesn't matter. The problem isn't that I can't disable the button with the keyboard. The problem is any page change through the keyboard RESETS the button.

keep the 'active page' button DISABLED???

This is a very annoying problem and it might just be my lack of knowledge. So I am on the stage of 'select content'. One of the screencasts for ST says you should sort by width and height and see what pages were identified as very narrow/wide or very long/short and these are mostly where many of you...

Re: light washes out text AND noise in photoshop not in ST

Actually ST does a fantastic job in 'mixed' mode at removing the shadows but it does have two limitations which make it not the best solution: * Doesn't pick up color text (maybe this is what you referring to) * Does not always correctly identify the picture areas I am amazed at its ability to pick ...

Re: light washes out text AND noise in photoshop not in ST

The magic wand does auto selection for contiguous areas with a single click, so you don't have to do draw any lines so it's easily scriptable, the problem is that it doesn't take care of enclosed letters (for example the middle of the letter "o") would still have the darker color. (It also...

Re: light washes out text AND noise in photoshop not in ST

I have also tried adjusting exposure, offset, gamma to fix shadow (in photoshop, not the camera) and it also had some problems. I haven't tried it with the black page method yet though, so I'll have to try it and report results. I'm not sure if its the best solution yet. The problem is the darker ba...
