Re: Ryan's Stowable Scanner Build Thread

1. How do the four 'struts' (that temporarily hold up the "V" shaped cradle) connect from underneath the cradle ‘wing’s to the base plate? I see no screws and it can’t be glued. 2. How did you fasten the glass to the paten frame? Just glass/wood glue? 3. What is the paten glass thickness?...

Re: Ryan's Stowable Scanner Build Thread

The scanner is packed away at the moment, so no pics I'm afraid. There are a couple of pics in the thread that show the base both empty and packed. The rollers that the movable base rides on (visible in one of the pictures) are just mounted with bolts and wing nuts, so they come out and the base can...

Re: Ryan's Stowable Scanner Build Thread

I'm glad you're interested! I can't help much at the moment, but I'll try to answer specific questions. I don't have a build list or schematics--I just built it rather organically. When I designed it, I started with the stowed size--I measured an underbed box, and decided that would be the maximum s...

Re: Monson's Servo Auto Scanner

That's pretty darn impressive! Might not be perfect (I saw one missed page at 1:30), but it's a workable prototype. Good work!

Re: Where do I start?

It's not as bad as it sounds, and it doesn't take as long as you'd think. I think BSW can even handle the file renaming, if I'm not mistaken. I just never bothered to learn that feature. For me, what takes the longest is proofing the images--looking over ScanTailor's automatic content boxes to make ...

Re: Where do I start?

There are a lot of different ways to do this. Here's how I do it (and mind you, this is certainly not the most streamlined or efficient way to do it--but it's the way I'm most comfortable with). 1) Create folder "Book" on computer, with sub-folders "L" and "R", and then...

Re: Minimum Camera for Book Scanning

Sounds great Ryan, where do we find van de Kamp triggers ? I'm totally electronically dumb, so can't do anything like that on my own. Way out of my field. I'm assuming I wouldn't be too dumb to set it up and use too ? LOL caelum It's really very simple and takes no special knowledge. I don't know t...

Re: Minimum Camera for Book Scanning

Well, if someone could actually help me with anything I would be most grateful! Not that I'm not willing to try work this out, but my brain can only take it so far. LOL where are these mechanical triggers in Norway ? Anyway to find him and would it be easy enough for me to use as well ? I know a lo...

Re: Need help with light

In my build thread, I've got a picture of my wired light rig . It might help you visualize the setup. I used (at Daniel's suggestion) an old laptop power supply. Really all you have to do is cut off the end where it plugged into the computer. You can also see that there's a switch between the power ...

Re: Software for digitizing books

Honestly, I think you should learn both. I use BSW to do one thing--remove keystoning (which ST can't do). Then I let ST's automation take over and do the rest of the processing. I'm with Rob--I'm not a big fan of the manual-ness of BSW, but it definitely does do a good job of doing what you tell it...
