I have had a look and run some tests. I think the problem is the quality of the scans. Can you try a 600dpi mono JPG scan again but scanning slower as you pull across the page. And another sample scanning top to bottom not left to right. I will post some of the results I got with your previous sampl...

Can I get sample scans of the same page with the following settings.

Fine resolution (900 DPI) mono
High resolution (600 DPI) mono
Standard resolution (300 DPI) mono

Both JPG and PDF

Zip / Compress in to one file and post here.

I did not mean a jpg extracted from the PDF but a jpg from the scanner.

Did you find out if you have Abbyy on the disc supplied?

That model should have Abbyy OCR bundled with the scanner. Before trying a jpg workflow I would try Abbyy with the PDF scans.

Ok I am assuming you have the PDS-ST415-VPS Vupoint handheld scanner. The other models either don't scan 900dpi or have Abbyy OCR software bundled. OCR does not benefit from scanning at a higher dpi. 300dpi is what most suggest. From your sample, I see that it needs cropping and rotating. If you are...

First it is alway good to test a workflow with several pages before charging in and scanning a whole book.

Are you using a Mac or PC?

What version Acrobat?

And can you post a sample scan.

gphoto2 would be my first recommendation but you are using Windows which rules that out.
