Re: Creating smaller PDFs

Thanks for the info. I use Acrobat XI Pro on Windows and I'd like to find some way to make it take all of the *.tif files in a specified directory and combine them into a single ClearScan PDF without any user interaction along the way. Looks like it can be done by using OLE Automation, but I haven't...

Would it be too much trouble if you could verify that?

Storage is pretty cheap these days, as is Internet bandwidth. Smaller files are certainly better, but you have to weigh the cost in time and effort to produce them.

Re: Creating smaller PDFs

assume that the alternative PDF outputs probably all compress the image content in the same way, although that might not be the case, and that any filesize reduction comes from a reduction of the size of the text content. It would be interesting to remove the four pages in that sample PDF that cont...

Re: Easy SORAA Lighting for a simple debinded setup

Isn't this something that you have done regularly yourself, I thought that as you mention the method regularly you might have developed a process? Yes, but I use custom C++ software that I wrote that performs this operation as the photos are being acquired and downloaded to a PC during the scan of ...

Re: Easy SORAA Lighting for a simple debinded setup

Can't help with the SORAA LED bulb/lamp issue. If you aren't able to get enough light on the page, you can adjust the camera to compensate (open iris, longer exposure times, increase ISO). Uneven lighting across the page can be dealt with by a post-processing step that increases the brightness of th...

Noteshrink

Found this interesting article written by a student that was looking for a way to post-process scanned images of handwritten class notes, cleaning them up and decreasing the file size before they are written to PDF. The article is well-written and does a good job of explaining the reasoning behind t...

Re: How do I light slightly glossy pages (e.g. art books, book covers) ?

The stands and lights look OK to me. You may have to hit some of the stand hardware with flat black paint to prevent a reflection showing up in images of pages that contain a lot of dark content (or reflect off of a glass plate if you end up using that). You can certainly do the thumb-spreading meth...
