Sure Daniel,
I might need a couple of days because my two jobs are quite busy right now. Also, I'm not exactly sure how to attach a .pdf file to one of these posts...hmmm. Is there a tutorial about?
Regards, Charles

Re: an initial effort...
Still hammering away at this. It's kind of funny, because I read about different hardware builds and and the problems folks have seem so simple. Then I get into software issues and the simplest things for everyone else can take me several days. I guess it's all what you're used to. I had thought awh...

Re: Prizmo
Fascinating. The software question really gets to the heart of what one is trying to do. I'm finding the big question here is are you doing books, or parts of books, or complete books that have to be done perfectly? I have an imac and like it alot, so I'm thinking lately that I'll stay with that alt...

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit
Hi Daniel, Thanks, I was wondering if that might be the case. Sandpaper trick seems to be working but I'm thinking a better solution might be a couple of small, narrow wood wedges. One thing that might be worth noting is that I'm using nylon 1/4 X 20 bolts (Lowes, specialty fastener cabinet) for bol...

Re: an initial effort...
Hi Rob, Hmmm....that's interesting. Maybe I need an acrobat expert (dare I say an acrobat "acrobat"?) Clearly I've got to work the whole thing through from beginning to end starting with better camera placement so I can capture a page at better resolution... Charles PS...I keep drawing up ...

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit
Fired up the scanner for the first time this evening and was pretty impressed. I can see the need for all sorts of different sized dowels to fit underneath the spine of a book. This may have been dealt with somewhere else. Shots of the pages were pretty much dead on and needed very little deskewing ...

an initial effort...
O.k. so I fired up the hackerspace scanner for the first time and photographed two pages. Next, I imported the pages to iphoto (this is an imac), then parked them on the desktop, fired up Scantailor, deskewed, margined, etc. to an output file. Next opened up Acrobat 9 and OCR'd my first page. Damn, ...

An acrobat question
So I'm at the beginning of the curve in learning to use Acrobat 9 for Mac to OCR my camera images. I installed acrobat pro o.k. Next, I attempted to OCR a very simple picture of a sign from a museum conference. Acrobat responded it could not do this as the image was greater than 45 X 45 inches. How ...

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit
What a lot of great progress everyone! I've had to take a break on my own effort. It's basically finished and now jet black (with a few red accents) but am currently traveling. Hope to visit NextFab studio in Philadelphia this weekend. I should be able to start the great scanning/software learning c...
