Re: So long suckers! I'm scanning the easy way...

duerig: I've never been able to set up a workable system for photographing books beyond just using an iPhone. For me there are just too many variables, most notably page curl near the binding. I too am looking forward too new technologies in this space. I had high hopes for the scanner from that Dut...

So long suckers! I'm scanning the easy way...

Prove me wrong diybookscanner.org: I've been lurking for years trying to find a workable non-destructive way to scan books. I'm encouraged by the progress but frankly it's still way behind where I thought it would be by this point. And in the meantime other options have become more viable. Maybe thi...

Google's infrared camera?

In the article linked below, the following sentence appears: In a matter of months, [Google] had invented an ingenious scanning device that used a stereoscopic infrared camera to correct for the bowing of pages that occurs when a book is opened. Does anyone have any information about this camera? ht...

Re: Monson's Servo Auto Scanner

Excellent! Do you have to adjust the wheel assembly for the thickness of the book?

Camscanner + iPhone 4?

Just saw this post on Cool Tools and was wondering what results are possible with an iPhone 4 or Android plus the Camscanner app.

Has anyone tried this? What is the OCR quality like?

Re: ultimate scanner solution

Looks great if it works as it seems. If you wanted to scan a whole book, I suppose you would have to make a V-shaped platen similar to the one in the standard build to make it easiest.

Re: scan2docx

By "glorified webcam" I meant that it looks more like this:

Which costs only about $150. Is there that much more quality in the picture to justify the price?
