Re: Sheet Fed Scanner for Destructive Scanning

I use scandallPro with an FI5750C, and whilst I will admit it isn't the best software I have used, it does the job, and I don't find it to be too much of a problem - stopping dust getting behind the sheet feed glass is the biggest problem. I tend to leave the colour settings alone for normal full co...

Re: Looking For Ideas on my DestroTech

All guillotines work best with stacks of flat sheets, and books are generally glued/sewn folios. The thicker the book, the more prone to curvature the spine is unless perfect bound - something like ( side on instead of the | required. This means that when you cue it up for cutting you generally will...

Re: Version of ABBYY?

Finereader allows you to load a series of JPEGS (or other image files), OCR, and then save to various file formats - PDF with the text embedded is one of them. There are various settings to the PDFs so you can play around with them until you hit the output size that suits. Acrobat X will allow you t...

Re: html conversion: "<b />" vs. "<p></p>"

Only just getting to grips with Acrobat X Pro myself, but if you are batch OCRing via an action then you can change the output options on the Save to section, just click the Export File(s) to alternate format, and choose HTML from the dropdown. I don't know what coding you might get, but it has got ...

Re: Scanner purpose (glossy, magazine-type pages)

Have you thought of a larger scanner? The Fujitsu I have takes slightly larger than A3 on the flatbed and this translates to the document feeder on top (that duplex scans on the one pass). I simply remove the staples of the magazine (carefully as I put them back in afterwards!) and set the scan size...

Re: Scanner purpose (glossy, magazine-type pages)

Is the plan to keep the magazines afterwards? What is the binding - perfect or stapled/stitched? Personally I have opted for stripping magazines of their spines (with a guillotine, although a craft knife is just as good, just slower) and scanning on a duplexing scanner. I have a couple, the Epson GT...

Re: DIY kit in EU

I have been making notes in readiness of building my own bookscanner and it appears that 12" x 9" x 3" is the maximum size I found on a thread, but I don't know which. The glass platten is obviously the main restricting factor, but the geometry of the rest of it will play a part, as w...

Re: OCR for text-only book copy

Finereader works best at 300dpi - tests I carried out some time ago using various flatbed resolutions confirmed this - and at around £100 I think it is the best value out of the box solution. I did quite a bit of work using another of their products - FlexiCapturePro - as structured text extraction ...

Re: Adobe Acrobat deleting parts of page during OCR

I'm not sure what the problem is as I downloaded both files, but reprocessed the first one. Initially I did a straight OCR in Acrobat X Pro and got good recognition, and then I went into the settings and changed to clearscan and got a reasonable recognition (it is all there) but encountered a proble...

Thanks. I guessed there was a reason I didn't spot any when searching through the lighting thread!
