Re: Gorilla Glass & Aluminosilicate glass

Hobby Lobby charged me $30 per pane, $60 total, cut them while I waited, gave them to me in brown craft paper ready to mount. Be sure they cut it so that they leave an edge to indicate which side goes against the book/paper and while side faces the camera.

Re: Gorilla Glass & Aluminosilicate glass

I gave up trying to source GG and went with Museum Glass from Hobby Lobby (yes, Hobby Lobby has Tru Vue museum glass).

Re: Dr. Cheap's software & workflow

I believe Scan Tailor allows you to specify a range of pages to which the content selection will apply, and also has an "apply to every other image" option within that range which will enable you to do what you're doing while still getting Scan Tailor to set all the output images to be th...

Re: Dragging select content box?

Three things that seem to cause errors with the content selection and page splitting: 1. Wrong DPI. If your pixel settings on the project are way off, ScanTailor seems to have trouble with auto-splitting page and with content recognition. 2. Glare spots or similar items outside the page area. Zoomin...

Re: Dr. Cheap's software & workflow

So, I played around with a few settings and made some comparisons and I think honestly you are right -- there is not a significant gain in quality by enlarging before processing. ScanTailor also processes the smaller image files much faster. So, the new fast and easy workflow for simple JPG images i...

Re: Bitonal conversion using Photoshop (Gimp & Imagemagic...

Yeah, I have found the following settings getting pretty good results on most of my images lately: LB 20 LW 230 (higher produces speckles, lower eats away at the text) LG .67 DoG1 6 DoG2 1 GBH 1 GBV 1 LO 35 (lower is good if the text is really black but many book pages are too gray for lower) 1st Th...

Re: split imeages

ScanTailor is the answer.

Not very many designs do 2 pages in 1 image, but if you look through the build threads for these, you will find some good advice on the issues they face.

That $150 off the shelf unit is probably garbage. I very much recommend against it.

Re: Dr. Cheap's software & workflow

dtic- I think I get a little cleaner white space inside of characters, (like the loop inside the top of an e) and also better ScanTailor performance. I've also noticed Adobe seems to do a better job of smoothing the characters and running accurate OCR. It's possible all this is confirmation bias, so...
