Re: Binarization

I made a thread on this forum a while back about binarization in photoshop, Gimp and IM:

Re: Library cataloging software for personal collections?

You could use Calibre. It's an ebook management system but you can add metadata without any file linked to it http://calibre-ebook.com/ It's a very powerful tool, you can do batch updates, import metadata from external sources (for example you input the ISBN and it imports the metadata automatically...

Re: Noob Questions on Scanning Process and E-Reader Formats

Thanks, so you're saying it's possible to have a mix of graphics (i.e. photos, illustrations, charts) alongside text in an EPUB format, but it's just more work? Yes Thanks, I assume the biggest problem for .pdf and DJVU would be keeping the file size down? I wonder how big of a file a 350 page book...

Re: Noob Questions on Scanning Process and E-Reader Formats

1. My main purpose for scanning books is to read my own book collection on a portable e-reader. I don't actually have an e-reader yet but it's mostly down to a choice between an iPad and a Kobo. It will depend on what to expect from the scanning process. My books are mostly academic books with a lo...

Re: Bitonal conversion using Photoshop (Gimp & Imagemagic...

You are probably right about the display, but I guess it's worth testing. Also, did you try activating the multi-core feature of Gimp? I think it's deactivated by default. You should activate it in the gimprc file and in the Preferences Regarding the DoG in IM, I'm sorry but I don't remember precise...

Re: Bitonal conversion using Photoshop (Gimp & Imagemagic...

Yes this unique command replicates as much as possible the steps of the Gimp script convert %%1 -colorspace Gray -level 20%%,80%%,.67 ^( +clone -bias 50%% -morphology convolve DoG:1,0,1 -level 0%%,50%%,.45 ^) -compose dissolve -define compose:args=70 -composite -threshold 80%% "%%~ndp1_dog.png" -col...

Re: Bitonal conversion using Photoshop (Gimp & Imagemagic...

Hi Benedictus, I agree that the Gimp script is not so fast, but since it's a batch, I personally don't mind the slowness... I just let it run in the background, it's just using one CPU thread anyway As for Imagemagick I proposed some (Windows-based) scripts in the first page of this thread, that do ...

Re: Bitonal conversion using Photoshop (Gimp & Imagemagic...

Unfortunately a Preview function cannot be implemented with script-fu. I would have to write a real plugin for that, not a simple script

Maybe in the future...
