Re: Scanner Kit available in Seattle area

Hope I'm not stepping on toes too badly but not sure how much visibility the Agora marketplace listings really have. I got a kit from Daniel 6 months ago which I will not be able to use and would like to hand it off to someone in the Seattle area at a reasonable price. Thanks! This has been purchas...

Scanner Kit available in Seattle area

I bought a kit from Daniel at the end of June which my brother was going to assemble. Health issues have precluded his ability to do so, and I would like to pass it on to someone else who can put it to use. I would like to deal locally and not ship it.

Please PM me if interested.

Thanks!

Re: Olympus E-PL1?

I plan on using Scan Tailor. There will be some books with illustrations but they will be a distinct minority. Probably the E-PL1 is a bit of overkill for most of it but the investment in better cameras pales in comparison to the expense and effort of constructing the scanner itself and most especia...

Re: Olympus E-PL1?

I plan on doing mostly text of average-sized books. Did you wind up using different cameras for the ledger project?

Thanks!

Re: Museum glass: before and after shots

This place shows 3 32x40" sheets of UltraVue glass for $152 which is certainly a whole lot cheaper than the TrueVue price you found (although I guess UltraVue is a TrueVue product?):

But that is kind of a bulk amount, as you say.

Re: Olympus E-PL1?

Thanks Daniel. Did the dual wired remote release you hacked together for them work as expected?

Adobe Acrobat deleting parts of page during OCR

I was playing around with a few sample pages to get the hang of using Scan Tailor and Acrobat to go from original images to final PDF. When I did OCR of the pages using ClearScan, Acrobat did something pretty scary: Deleted chunks of text from the PDF. Attached are a sample PDF page before and after...

Olympus E-PL1?

I started flatbed scanning books and OCR'ing to read on my HP 200LX DOS pocket computer over 15 years ago so I guess you could say I'm an early adopter of ebooks, including the DIY variety. But it's been a long time since I've done book scanning and now that the day of the ebook has arrived with a v...
