Re: safe hand removal of plastic binder combs

I may be missing some nuance here but this case seems a good example of where even a cheap edge scanner would be simple and effective - including an old (antique?) model such as the Plustek Opticbook 3600 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plustek-91N-BBM31-A-Opticbook-3600-Scanner/dp/B00065KA72 - numerous ex...

Re: tiff alpha/transparency channel - utility to scan files for its presence?

Thanks for replies. Success! I installed https://imagemagick.org/download/binaries/ImageMagick-7.0.10-49-Q16-HDRI-x64-dll.exe -without selecting extra install options or adding program to path. Multiple web searches then ensued, including: https://www.imagemagick.org/script/escape.php %A :: image tr...

tiff alpha/transparency channel - utility to scan files for its presence?

Is there a free tool for MS Windows (preferred) or maybe Linux, Debian 10 Stable that can act in batch mode to find those tiff files in a folder whose headers/metadata indicate the presence of an alpha (transparency) channel (by which I mean the channel that can be removed manually by e.g. in GIMP o...

Re: Make a djvu file and add ocr [mixed text/image tif encoding to DjVu file]

Using Gimp v.2.8.18, DjVu Small and DjVu Imager to make a mixed text/image DjVu page from a single .tif image output by ScanTailor Advanced v.1.0.14. My preliminary notes for converting to DjVu one or two isolated tif files of mixed text/image. Simulating the "ScanTailor Featured" export tif split b...

Re: Make a djvu file and add ocr [metadata injection]

At the weekend I explored two aspects of DjVu files: 1. injecting metadata into the file; 2. using Gimp v.2.8.18, DjVu Small and DjVu Imager to make a mixed text/image DjVu page from a single .tif image output by ScanTailor Advanced v.1.0.14. I set out here the outline notes of my initial fumbling e...

Site certificate / YouTube channel

Possibly an inane question but in the last week or two I've noticed my bookmarked url for DIY BookScanner http://www.diybookscanner.org/forum/index.php started throwing Firefox invalid site certificate errors* so I haven't visited in that time. Deleting the preceding www. today takes me here without...

Re: bitmaps into vector graphics: cr2v.exe - anyone have it?

Thanks very much, I'll give it a test drive. Incidentally I see Inkscape v.1.0 is out as of 1 May: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.0/ My interest in these as well as in potrace springs from the probably misguided idea of exploring whether any can produce from ScanTailor output greyscale or b...

bitmaps into vector graphics: cr2v.exe - anyone have it?

I was briefly experimenting with potrace and came upon references to the early, free version of a similar (MS DOS) program, cr2v.exe which apparently used to live (nearly 20 years ago) at http://www.celinea.com/demos/cr2v.zip - but the link is to another location which appears not to have been saved...

Re: Make a djvu file and add ocr: DjVuToy; TiffDjvuOcr; CuneiDjVu

Hah, it's always the way: post something then find the more elegant solution. In the particular circumstances I since found that changing the filename of the target DjVu (which included an apostrophe) to x.DjVu (for example) and re-running the write command in HandyOutliner successfully wrote the bo...
