Re: DIY Scanner for the poor, lazy, and space-challenged
That looks like just the thing for a vacuum pickup scanner! Much cheaper than cannibalizing a flatbed scanner

Formatting PDF?
I hope this is the right area to ask this question.... When I scan a book, often times, especially with school textbooks, it is nice to look at the book in 2 page view with an even numbered page on the left and odd on the right. But if you scan a book with the front cover as page one of the PDF, you...

Re: Auto Scanner Scheme #5
I work for a paper mill specifically on the gauging system. We measure paper at 45mph down to microns (4/10000"). The caliper sensor is inductive. It changes the frequency of an oscillator and we measure the frequency of that oscillator as an indirect measurement of caliper. A small PIC process...

Re: Revision to Daniel's scanner
please delete any schematic images in the thread except for the last image. All had issues, the last one (of course!!) works.

Re: Revision to Daniel's scanner
I probably should ask Daniel to let me edit (or delete) this thread because the schematic for my alternating light circuit has been through so many revisions. I have to say, this is the final revision. I've scanned 4 or 5 800-1000 page books without flaw. This circuit (in it's present form) has not ...

help with scan tailor
I'm getting better with scan tailor as I see what it's capable of... but... dewarping. When I select Manual dewarping and apply to all pages, it seems to apply only the status of manual, not the shape I've drawn. Am I missing something?

Re: Revision to Daniel's scanner
More progress to report.... Relays came in from China the other day, the camera sequencing timer circuit worked as designed. The times are set to 5 seconds for the kickout relay, 2 seconds for the debounce relay, and 2-1/2 seconds for the secondary camera timer relay. I have found that old motorola ...

Re: Build Thread for the Hackerspace Scanner Kits
I am interested in knowing how you 'transferred' the drawings to the wood. Thanks The easiest way I've found is to send PDFs to your local blueprint company. My local company prints up to D size for $3 a sheet. I then use el-cheap-o spray adhesive to make the paper stick to the plywood. I've used g...

Noise in photos?
This has probably been brought up before, but here goes... I have used 4 brands of point and shoot cameras. Kodak, Fuji, Canon, Nikon. My old 5mp kodak takes the pictures with the brightest colors and least noise bar none, alas it is only 5mp. I guess I'm lucky that it was my first digital camera an...

Re: Revision to Daniel's scanner
You'd have to widen the platen a bit. There is no problem with lifting a 3.5" book against the glass
