Re: Table of Contents: adding links to an existing TOC in a PDF?
Indexes and tables of contents are not the same thing. There is a good reason why many technical books have both. The table of contents gives you a summary of how the information is laid out, as well as directions on how to find each section. It is a big picture view of what the document is about. Y...

Re: Table of Contents: adding links to an existing TOC in a PDF?
I have added bookmarks to existing PDFs using either ghostscript or pdfbeads. In either case, you have to provide the bookmark data yourself rather than have it automatically gleaned from the scanned images. It usually is a few hours work for complicated documents. However, if you only have one docu...

Re: Scanning setup/build/purchasing options for for scanning image heavy books of varying sizes/thicknesses
I have the 3600 model which I bought over 13 years ago. The current 3800 model looks very similar, but I don't know if the software that comes with it is the same as for my old model. With the software I have, there is _no_ correction for distortion or shadows. I don't have a problem with that becau...

Re: Scanning setup/build/purchasing options for for scanning image heavy books of varying sizes/thicknesses
I have my scanner near the edge of the cabinet it is on, so that one side of the book hangs straight down off the side of the cabinet. That way, you don't need to open the book very much to get good access into the gutter. Unless a book has a very stiff spine, I find I can get the page flat right ou...

Re: Scanning setup/build/purchasing options for for scanning image heavy books of varying sizes/thicknesses
My Opticbook scanner claims it does 600dpi, and that is accurate as far as I can see. What do you think you will learn from a sample scan? Without the original that was scanned, it's hard to know how good the reproduction is. See http://komary.net/cathy.png for a scan I took of a picture in a printe...

Re: Scanning setup/build/purchasing options for for scanning image heavy books of varying sizes/thicknesses
If you aren't going to use the scanner really heavily, then Plustek offers some Opticbook scanners that are designed for scanning bound books. They are designed to scan one page at a time, with the opposing page hanging off the side so that you don't have to break the binding to get a flat scan. The...

Is there any issue with the box shaking while you are trying to photograph the pages?

Re: Scanning with Xiaomi Mi 9 but bad(bend) results, what camera can I use?
I should also add that you can simplify processing with gimp by using batch commands if your undistort operation always uses the same parameters. Here are some notes I made on the subject a few years ago: gimp batch commands: (args: filename/pattern main edge zoom brighten xshift yshift) > gimp -i -...

I would also suggest that you position the camera farther away and zoom in if possible. That usually improves the problems you saw (depth of field and lens distortions).
