Re: Scan Tailor is looking for a new maintainer

Hey Everyone, Don't worry I'm still here, and I haven't abandoned Scan Tailor. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of things going on (not worth getting into here), which have severely limited the amount of free time I can put into projects like Scan Tailor. But I still care about Scan Tailor, and want to...

Re: Scan Tailor is looking for a new maintainer

Hello Mohib, and welcome to the forums. I think it would be best to submit your feature requests on the Github project issue tracker, at https://github.com/scantailor/scantailor/issues The Github issue tracker serves as our todo list, and keeps track of bugs people have found, and features people wa...

Re: Scan Tailor is looking for a new maintainer

Hello all, I am Nate Craun and I will be taking over as Scan Tailor's new maintainer. I'm planning on merging some features from Scan Tailor extended, featured, and plus into the main Scan Tailor branch. I am also going to update the website, and switch development to github to spark up some more de...

Re: Announcing smoothscan: Free software scan vectorizing to

It would be great to have more flexibility smoothscan is using the excellent open source leptonica libraries to help with image classification. Currently users can tweak the threshold and weight parameters to provide more flexibility. A higher threshold value means less symbol templates will be pro...

Linux Bookscanning Guide

Hello All, I have recently put together a document describing my linux bookscanning workflow. I have some general scanning tips for using different types of scanners (flatbed, formfeed, portable), and also more specific instructions for using them with a Linux based system. I have made a camera base...

Re: Announcing smoothscan: Free software scan vectorizing to

I haven't tried your software yet, but I intend to. I have had a little experience with Clearscan, which you seem to be emulating. Clearscan appears to create a custom font which covers the range of pages you're converting (and, at least in my experience, tended to crash if you tried to convert mor...

Announcing smoothscan: Free software scan vectorizing tool

Hello everyone, I have written a tool to convert scanned document pages to a vectorized font pdf. It is released under the GPL v3 license. Currently only Linux is supported, but I plan to add support for Windows and Mac in the near future. Please check out the project homepage at https://natecraun.n...

Re: Scanned 670 pages --> 73 MB, how can I downsize?

You can certainly reduce the filesize of the book below 73MB, even at 600dpi, especially if the book is only black and white text. For example, I have done a 576 page book at 600dpi with full OCR and bookmarks at a filesize of 7.6mb (5.7mb without OCR and bookmarks). Even though your book is 100 pag...

Re: Freeware Windows workflow: 40Mb 400pg OCR'd A4 book pdfs

Have you compared the output file sizes from the two compression schemes? I expect JBIG2 will compress better, but I wonder by how much. I haven't used G4 compression myself, but I recall in the DjVu 3 Specification they mention that JB2 (A compression method used in DjVu Bitonal images, similar to...
