Re: Default for "Notify me when a reply is posted" ?
Go to your User Control Panel, Click the Board Preferences tab, Click the "Edit posting defaults" option, Choose "Notify me upon replies by default". I don't think I'd ever consider enabling it by default (new users would be inundated with irrelevant traffic) but this opt-in way...

Re: Post something about yourself here (The Hello Thread)
Hi Dave, Hi Vitorio,
Definitely tell us how that Ponoko works out! I'm especially interested to hear how it flows without a tower to hold the upper platen. Very helpful house cat you have there. No doubt useful for far more than merely providing a size reference.

Re: Default for "Notify me when a reply is posted" ?
Would be really great if there was a global pref for this. Makes the BB more "sticky" and keeps people engaged.
I looked all through the User Control Panel and I couldn't find a place to specify that by default I'd like to always subscribe to threads that I have posted in.

OCR with FineReader for SnapScan - Trick it to use it
The Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners for Mac OS X usually come with a version of Acrobat Pro and FineReader for ScanSnap. In my personal OCR testing of Acrobat Pro 8 versus FineReader 3, FineReader is way better. The problem is that the FineReader version that comes bundled with the ScanSnap is limited to ...

Re: FREE MAC solution to keystoning, etc.
For us Mac users who also don't have the expensive PhotoShop, I just discovered a good way to deal with Keystone effect - and it won't cost anything (or very little). The Shareware GraphicConverter 7 has some new features, including de-skewing. GraphicConverter is Mac OS X software, free download fr...

Re: What's broken about eBooks? What would un-break them?
I want to mention a feature that all eBooks should have, but I have not seen it. When I'm reading a book, especially one with a lot of characters, it can be easy to get the characters confused. "Wait, who is this guy? is the bad guy's brother? Or is this the guy with the mustache?" What wo...

Re: Platen Welding-Jig and Multi-Function Cradle
This design could fold flatter for storage and transport if you offset the holes for the threaded rods at the top and drill out the contact areas. All the left pieces are the same, and all the right side pieces are the same. I might say to clamp all strips to drill the bottom holes, then drill the t...

Re: Platen Welding-Jig and Multi-Function Cradle
I like it! Instead of relying on tight nuts to keep your angle, you could have 1 more of those aluminum strips bridge the hypotenuse between the top threaded rods from left to right. Set the angle by choosing the distance between the holes drilled. Maybe drill several holes in that strip so you can ...

Re: Post something about yourself here (The Hello Thread)
Hi I'm Dave and I'm glad to be here. I bought a ScanSnap S510M to scan the thousands of magazines I can't bear to discard. Many are entirely out of production. Although I certainly don't need daily access to them, I'm a bit of an archivist in that I just know I will want to look up something from th...
