Re: New Archivist Build

Had to zip the Aspire v11 file to upload here. It's a first draft and I'm still working on the build so haven't confirmed parts yet. Let me know if you find any corrections. I upgraded to Aspire 11.5 today and the file looks great, thanks! No idea when I'll get around to cutting it though. :( g.

Re: New Archivist Build

I first contacted a local shop, they refused to do bevels, quoted Starfire glass, cut to size, 2 pieces for ~$650 USD. Did you tell them you only wanted the glass and not the molten tin pond it was poured on? 🤣 Have you thought about building a jig and doing it yourself using a sander or grinding s...

You've got v11 and I'm still on v9.5. :( BTW, you might reach out to a local glass shop and find out if they can bevel glas...

Re: New Archivist Build

Brett, I've got a ShopBot PRTAlpha 96 and I'd love to get a copy of that Aspire file from you if I could!

This is a video of my machine cutting the Hackerspace Scanner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UR7BI91tTQ&t=27s

Thanks!

Re: Internet Archive tabletop Scribe scanner (TT Scribe)

I just emailed the IA about getting the files released for the scribe. We'll see if that does any good.

Does anyone have a wide-angle photo of their other scanner, the one that uses a floating platen? I can't find a photo that shows how & where the cameras are mounted.

tnx.

Re: PiScan with Raspberry Pi 4?

USB 3 would presumably make writing the images to a USB 3 thumb drive a lot faster, right?

The Amazon lamp linked above works great, but don't get the bright white one - there's a TON of blue light in the LED. I get much better results from the "warm white" version.

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit

Thanks for the link, it's a huge help. I've got some 95W LED lamps designed for outdoor fixtures - would something like that shining through the square hole work similarly? Is the distance from the light source to the platen critical? thanks for the fast reply! [edit] I found a similar unit on Amazo...

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit

duerig, can you please point me to the name/part# of the LED lamp used for this project? That information seems to be well hidden.

Thanks.

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit

Thanks for the reply Jonathon. Unfortunately, I figured out that I'd "barked up the wrong scanner" a little late in the process. :) It will work out though - 18mm Baltic Birch is ab$urd where I live, so it worked out that I could use the Hackerspace scanner design listed in this thread and...
