Re: ABBYY for compression?

I was interested to see if there was any space saving by doing Sprint12 first before using Finereader. I was scanning 6 months of a periodical today, so used that as my test case. 365 pages Colour dpi 600 size between A4 & A3 Scans 2850 Mb Sprint then Finereader Text on top 382.782 Mb 13.4% Sprint t...

Re: ABBYY for compression?

Hi I am happy to run some tests for you. I use Acrobat, ABBYY Sprint and ABBYY Finereader. I use Acrobat for croping and turning to start off. Then at the end to index a group of pdfs. If I only want a simple (no editing of any kind) ocr I use Sprint. It is also used to reduce the size of the pdf be...

Bill
The trial version of ABBYY Finereader should do. There a limit of three pages but that should be OK for the fair.

Had the file been a decent size it would have been easier to check.
I used YASW for dekeystoning & cropping.
How do you want to use the output?

I cannot comment on cutting the book.
But a work around may be finding another library who would either scan their own copy or allow you to scan it. And so leave your copy intact, but 50% unreadable.

Re: Cataloging exhibition material - best way? (method/software)

Yes Acrobat costs a bit, I use Acrobat 9 which does not have an annual fee. You can pay only one month at a time or yearly for the new version, the old one still does what I need. I index sets of material separately ie. magazines, books sets and altogether (as most of what I do has the same subject)...

Re: Cataloging exhibition material - best way? (method/software)

What you are trying to do is what Adobe Acrobat does already although at a great cost. It is the only program that indexes pdf files that I have found. Writing such a program is beyond me. You can get a trial version for 30 days I think. So once you have scanned all your material, give it a try. As ...

Re: OCR Scanning Large Multi-Volume Document

Hi Is it possible to post a photo of a normal page and the index. Line printers are still being used today. I guess you do not have the original data. Dbase was often used in the 80's for data bases. I expect there are still old computers around today that can still read the data and convert it to s...

Re: Plustek 3800

Most books I am doing have illustrations and a number have footnotes. They are mostly Missionary History or Biographies. I was going from Omnipage directly to epub then Calibre for final editing. I thought I would like to put in chapters on new pages and couldn't workout how calibre did it so brough...
