Re: Native font translation - Not Minion Pro/Times New Roman
Yes, the Windows version. You need to go via Tools > Options > OCR > Select Fonts > Clear All > then select the font you want. This will use the selected font in the text layer. You can then have the Text layer sit on top of the Image lager, with Tools > Options > Format Settings > Searchable PDF se...

Re: Native font translation - Not Minion Pro/Times New Roman
Abbyy Finereader can be forced to use any font that your system has. Normally there are 30 or so fonts by default ticked for use but you can untick all of them and select the one you want out of the 100's available. If the font you want is not available at all, that's another problem. All fonts are ...

Re: Table of Contents: adding links to an existing TOC in a PDF?
Thanks for that. Manuals and technical books are ones that I have not scanned. People, places, events, opinions are what I scan, are used for.
Thanks again for the explanation.

Re: Table of Contents: adding links to an existing TOC in a PDF?
In reading these posts, I wonder why create a TOC when one can just search one or many PDF's at the same time. I scanned a series of magazines that someone made an paper index for each year. Once OCRed a index was created with Acrobat for the complete set, any word or phrases could be searched for i...

Re: Hello from Lousiana
Oddball Another consideration would be to de-construct the material and put through a document scanner of photocopier to do the scanning. Then work on post processing. I volunteer at a Archive and we did that with a spare set on minute books. Once the material is in searchable pdf files it is possib...

Re: Creating smaller PDFs
My Acrobat 9 Pro will also do batch Clearscan OCR of files in folders. They need to be selected though. Abbyy Finereader Corporate allows 5000 pages with 2 cores to be OCRed in a certain folder. So what ever is put in that folder over the month is done, well up to the 5000 page limit. Approx 250 pag...

Re: Creating smaller PDFs
As I like real life examples, I have chosen a book that is still in copyright and is here only for the purpose of showing how different programs process pdf's. It is another book about what was a mining area, and it also has white pages which I do not often work with. Acrobat besides Clearscan can a...

Re: Creating smaller PDFs
ABBYY Finereader uses the terms Text on Top or Image on Top. It has been a long time since I used OmniPage Ultimate it uses terms like front or behind but I think they refer to overlaying different elements on the main layer. I did some tests to see what fonts ABBYY, OmniPage and ClearScan produced ...

Re: Creating smaller PDFs
The subject of making pdf's smaller has raised my interest. I have wondered for a while now about having or not having pictures in what I call the text or not seen layer. Pictures are not searchable so what value are they? You can see them when you read a pdf file so is there any value of having the...
