Re: how to remove punch holes automatically?

Thanks for your script Cday . There is also another method which I am trialling. I had a little help from snibgo on the ImageMagick forum. The problem breaks down into: 1. Find the holes. 2. Replace them with the background colour. To find the holes snibgo suggested thresholding the image to black a...

Re: how to remove punch holes automatically?

Another approach might be to move a mask with eight holes in it across the image until there are black pixels in each of the holes, that might work well if it could be implemented... To avoid having to scan the mask in two axes, it might be possible to use a mask with eight narrow vertical rectangu...

Re: how to remove punch holes automatically?

Based on your insights that the punch holes are in fixed positions relative to each other, and also in close to fixed positions relative to the page, I think I have now have a proof-of-concept Windows batch file script that remove all the holes on mixed left or right pages in one pass... The script...

Re: how to remove punch holes automatically?

This however would not remover the Punch Holes in this case. I expect because the holes looks like the moon on it back it did not conclude them to be Punch Holes so never did anything. That's the exact same problem I have encountered with other software claiming to remove punch holes. There must be...

Re: how to remove punch holes automatically?

If you were to OCR without an image as said the punch holes are not seen. but I don't want to OCR without an image. If I do that it is even more time consuming as I have to review all the OCR output as it makes a lot of mistakes and if I send the file to someone else and I have not proofed it, it l...

Re: how to remove punch holes automatically?

Thanks for your reply. The scanned images are assembled into PDF in the form of a searchable image. the images of the punch holes seem to have all the same shape and form, so there might be some kind of software which can in a pattern search remove those patterns. That's exactly what I thought regar...

how to remove punch holes automatically?

I am trying to remove punch holes from thousands of scanned documents. I can do this manually but it is too time consuming, so am looking for an automatic solution. The problem is the punch holes are often in different places on different documents. Some holes are not punched level, where the docume...

Re: scan tailor experimental - best video card?

In image processing applications, GPU memory bandwidth tends to be the bottleneck. So, your performance / cost ratio may well be the "memory bandwidth / cost" ratio. For memory bandwidth of a particular graphics card, consult Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nvidia_graphics_processi...

scan tailor experimental - best video card?

I will be building a system just to scan books and wondered what the best video card was for scantailor experimental? I ask this as I have read that scantailor experimental can use the GPU to speed up processing. With this in mind what is the best video card to buy in terms of cost / performance?

Re: Scan Tailor "Experimental"

This is absolutely fantastic, I just can't believe the speed increases. Is there any chance of adding this to Linux repositories?
