Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

I asked my brother to type up a reply, and this is what he said: Thanks for your interest. Since I don't know how much you already understand about the design I built, I'll try to explain each part. I realized the same issue with drilling, so I wondered how to create a frame that the T brackets coul...

Re: Preserve color but make white background? (no OCR)

@cday:

Even that level of experimentation is beyond me, I'm afraid. :/

Fortunately, most of the workbooks I'm scanning in aren't color-heavy, and are more like the other pic - b&w illustrations with text.

Re: Preserve color but make white background? (no OCR)

I tested noteshrink (well, I couldn't do the pdf convert, it kept failing on that part, but I convert to pdf with convert anyway, so I was simply interested in seeing what png it produced). It didn't do too bad at making it reasonable for printing, but it got rid of all color completely (made even t...

Preserve color but make white background? (no OCR)

I'm scanning some workbooks in to use with some of my students, who often need to repeat pages (and I can't bear to destroy the book and put loose pages in sheet protectors). These workbooks are not the sort of thing one wants to turn into a standard ebook with OCR, so I'm just converting the full-p...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

I'd intended to reply last summer, but I was frantically trying to prep for school, and then teaching kept me SUPER busy this year. I finally have some time to deal with loose ends, and can respond regarding the final product. I've attached a picture of the scanner as complete. The black cloth behin...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

I've been swamped so couldn't update. Latest things: - The mystery line reflection was the edge of the cameras , which I attacked tiny strips of the nonslip drawer liner to - it did the trick. Those reflections are gone. - I bought a longer cable for the right smartphone because every time I had to ...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

After several weeks of real life intervening, black cloth was purchased and hemmed to create a backdrop to eliminate reflections from the back wall. Tonight I did a test run using a short ~50-page book, and tried out processing with ScanTailor, mostly just poking around and trying things. I don't th...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

I wasn't ordering from eBay - but they came well ahead of when they said they were arriving, so I have the tape and second remote now. Will tackle that tomorrow, perhaps. The fabric may need to wait till another day when I can go to town. (While it may not be entirely necessary given the software me...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

I'm not sure there'd be much of an advantage to try to get it adjustable. My brother's leaving in a day or so, so there's really no more time for him to do those sorts of tweaks. As it is, I'm going to have to buy some non-shiny black fabric (the stuff we found here at home is too shiny) for my mom ...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

With the shelves mounted on the tracks shown in the photo above, couldn't you albeit with some inconvenience, move the lowest shelf up temporarily when scanning? The tracks should provide an easy way to adjust the lamp height in small steps. Or, if you give up some storage space, you could mount th...
