Re: Scan Tailor "Experimental"

EDIT After disabling Avast, the installer launched. Yes, me. Re-downloaded the files. Re-clicked to install. Still no action whatsoever. The only way to kill the processes is to reboot. The only way to install it that I found was to kill my file manager, which seemed to clash with the file. This ne...

Re: Scan Tailor "Experimental"

Was anyone able to install the version from 22 Feb 2016 on Win 7? - version from 13 Jan was working fine - version from 22 Feb (64-bit) does not install -- both the 32-bit and 64-bit. The installer launches 3 processes, but nothing happens. The processes cannot be killed in ProcessHacker. Rebooted, ...

Re: Tools / Settings: dpi setting for advanced users

But could we please have an advanced setting under Tools / Settings so we can specify a dpi in the output file? I'll think about it. Thank you for considering it. It's just that one small box in Scan Tailor could save messing with far more complex dialogs in other programs down the line. For instan...

Tools / Settings: dpi setting for advanced users

Hi Tulon, A thousand thanks for the amazing software. I've shown my partner how to fix a dirty scan she found somewhere, and she was blown away. Scan Tailor experimental doesn't output 96 DPI images. It's just what your software shows when DPI information is missing I get that. But could we please h...

Re: Cleaning up Background after ClearScan

@dpc, thank you for suggesting MobileRead, I haven't been there in ages. You mentioned Mutool. I believe its extraction feature is the latest version of the pdfextract.exe utility I mentioned on this post (pdfextract was included in MuPDF until version 0.9). Extraction is not a problem; what I'd lik...

Re: Cleaning up Background after ClearScan

Hi cday, Thank you for your extremely thorough and detailed message. You have probably written the most detailed investigation of ClearScan available on the web today. It will probably become a reference post. :D For obvious reasons I am still interested in the kind of software I have mentioned — be...

Need advice on using Abbyy for actual scanning

On a number threads it seems that some people are using Abbyy to process images, either on its own or in conjunction with ScanTailor. This made me curious to try the software. At this stage I don't have a DIY scanner (using a standalone Canon). I see that Abbyy can replace the scrappy Canon software...

Re: Cleaning up Background after ClearScan

Hi cday, To show you the sample you requested, instead of scanning multiple pages at random, I thought I'd scan a selection of type. Sure enough, SureScan produced the mixture of text / image we were after. The scan is from Just my Type by Simon Garfield, and I'm sure uploading a single page in this...

Re: Cleaning up Background after ClearScan

text which was reproduced on the screen as a scaleable vector outline which was not searchable, which I assume would not appear in the text layer you are referring to... When you use the layer separation preflight, you get three layers (if all types are present): text, images, and vector objects. I...

Re: Cleaning up Background after ClearScan

I'm not sure about that But I am sure (reporting my experience). For instance if I extract all the images of a ClearScanned document using pdfextract, some images can be text, and that text is not on the Text layer (after separation). Likewise, that text will appear on the Images layer if you separ...
