Re: DIY Book Scanner Kits Now Available!
Is anyone seeing glare issues with the LED light? See image below. I did cover the top of the scanner with dark cloth. Maybe the angle of the left platen wall in my setup isn't high enough? I haven't yet tried a diffuser or adjusting the height of the lamp... In case this helps anyone else, the sol...

Re: Sheet Fed Scanner for Destructive Scanning
Here is the Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwrel&v=-M95Ob4kIak&NR=1 I recently scanned 158 books using the Scansnap S1500, after MinuteMan press, a print shop chain with a franchise in Portland, OR, removed the bindings with their ream cutter per book for under $2 each....

Re: DIY Book Scanner Kits Now Available!
Be sure to paint the scanner black! This is NOT for looks (although it does look cool) but to reduce glare. Your city may, like Portland, OR, offer a discount-priced recycled paint program. Ours, called Metropaint (http://www.oregonmetro.gov/index.cfm/go/by.web/id=521/), charges just $10 for a gallo...

Re: Cameras for the Hackerspace Scanner
I have 2 of these and CHDK working. The cameras are not slow. In fact, they're faster than my two SX200IS, but you must default 2 second Review mode. Also, CHDK is more difficult to get working than the SX200IS, but it's possible. The SX200IS also has more zoom stops (see my post here http://chdk.se...

Re: Booksorber coming soon: Scan with 1 camera and simple se
Thanks Georg for posting this. It seems possible to accomplish much of this with open source software. In fact, it got me curious if CHDK could handle this, using its motion detection scripting, so I posted the question here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=8303.msg87752#msg87752 In fact,...

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit
Thanks dpc! Working solutions: #1: Temporarily removed clamps in favor of electrical trigger #2: See video #3: Disabled "widescreen", which opened the top and bottom of the viewfinder enough to position the gutter on the bottom of the frame. #4: Set white balance to auto removed the blue. ...

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit
I'm getting closer to the complete assembly of this Hackerspace Build. This video shows both mechanical and electrical (http://www.sakeoftruth.com/2010/04/usb-remote-w-o-batteries-starting-the-book-scanner-project-pt-1/ using StereoDataMaker) triggers in operation. Observations/questions: 1. I need ...
