Re: How to create searchable PDF out of scanned files?

I'm using Abbyy Finereader for creating searchable PDFs. I'm using Text under the page image save mode. This option saves the entire page image as a picture and places the recognized text underneath. Use this option to create a fully searchable document that looks virtually the same as the original.

Re: Best non-DIY book scanners

I have used Fujitsu ScanSnap S500, which I guess is ancient predecessor of Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500. One thing that you need to check is whether scanner supports uncompressed output, if that is important to you. For example, Scanscan S500 don't support uncompressed output. And it won't be enough if yo...

Re: Best non-DIY book scanners

It looks like IVina Bookscan Station Pro contains rebranded or visually modified Avision scanner FB6280E . Document scanner in Bookscan Station Doc Center looks like Avision AD125 . Of course, scanner alone is not enough for solution, there is computer with full software stack in iVina Bookscan stat...

Re: Archivists in / from Europe for sale

HI, Mark, Yes, I'm aware of your sites. I have built highest-quality Archivist I could for myself that is closer to original design than I saw on your photos and with more attention to details - anti-reflective glass, Soraa LEDs, anodized aluminum, F608ZZ for craddle base, black bungee jumps, plasti...

Re: Need some help to identify the bolts

@Corentin I'm using threaded inserts from http://specialinsert.it 1. 25x25mm square tube with 1.5mm thick wall (Cradle Runners) - ITQ2S/M 6/22.1 2. 30x30mm square tube with 2.0mm thick wall (Base Bars) - ITQ2S/M 6/26.0 3. For Handlebar I'm using 40mm round Sapa profile with 1.7mm thick wall and plac...

Archivists in / from Europe for sale

I'm building full Archivist sets for myself and would like to sell to others. I have built prototype to iron out production issues and add some improvements. Now small production batch of Archivist kits are in production. They should be ready by end of October. I'm located in Latvia (European Union)...

Re: Sheet Fed Scanner for Destructive Scanning

Scanning in 600dpi drops speed quite a bit. From my experience with Canon and Avision document scanners they are optimized for at most 300dpi speed wise. And normal use-case for them is scanning documents with compression enabled and less than 300dpi. So, if you want to get uncompressed data from sc...

Re: Anti-reflective glass

Another pending experiment is to test what it takes to damage anti-reflective coating. Coating is very thin - we are talking about nanometers, if I remember correctly. Guy from Grograss told me that micro-fibers cloth is fine. But I imagine if there is dust and dirt all the time and you clean it ver...

Re: Anti-reflective glass

If I remember correctly, 2mm glass should be fine for framing of picture up to 1x1.5m (40"x60"). But that is just static glass in frame without any pressure. In Archivist glass must handle pressure or even hit when books is pressed against it and more precisely - in the middle of it, if bo...

Re: Anti-reflective glass

@duerig did you get 3mm source of Artglass in US, or you will test 2mm Artglass? From Framed Destination? It would be interesting to find out whether 2mm glass can be safely used instead of 3mm glass for Archivist. 3mm is quite heavy - ~1.8kg for both pieces. And if we are talking about Artglass, 2m...
