Re: Single camera - "wrong" side pages flip back

You seem to have the right idea about how to keep the page out of the view of the camera. You can fix some kind of strap to the back side of the left wedge with a thin weight to hold the page flat. I'm not sure a ruler would be heavy enough but you should be able to find something around that is fla...

Re: Single camera - "wrong" side pages flip back

If I understand correctly in your set up the platen presses against only one page of the book and the opposite page is not restrained. So the opposite page can flop over into the view of the camera. So what you need is a way to hold the opposite page back. There could be a number of ways to hold it ...

Re: Ultra Lost Cost Scanner

Yes, you can zoom the camera to fit the page to the frame. That is the normal way to do it.

Re: Ultra Lost Cost Scanner

If you have something firm to attach it to you can mount a camera using a 1/4 X 20 bolt. Just drill a 1/4 inch hole through the mount and run the bolt through it. It will screw right into the base of the camera. If the bolt isn't quite the right length I use an extra long bolt and then thread a wing...

Re: book scanning...

You wanted to know if it would hurt my arms moving the platen up and down for a whole book. I never had a problem when I was using either the traditional or the teeter-totter scanners. Of course with the KISS scanner I don't move the platen, all I move is the book. It doesn't bother my arms, all it ...

Re: book scanning...

Since you are interested in how to scan books I thought this might interest you. I have been doing just what you are wanting for several years now and this is my story. To start out I should explain that I have been scanning mostly fiction, not technical manuals or text books, which have lots of ill...

Best free OCR SW

I am looking for a free OCR SW package that is relatively simple to use. I am planning to go to the Tulsa Maker Faire in August and show my scanning set up. On my main computer I use AABBYY Finereader 14, which works quite nicely. But when I go to the Maker Faire I take my Lap Top. I don't want to p...

Re: Why using plexiglass?

I used plexiglass on my scanners because it was readily available and easy to work with. I could cut and drill it myself, with no special tooling. Also there is the question as to what you mean by 'normal glass'. For example I definitely recommend against the glass you find in picture frames. It wil...

Re: ISO Destructive Scanning Service

An individual can do destructive scanning relatively easily. The procedure goes something like this. You may need to modify it for your situation. 1. Assuming a hard back book. Carefully remove the cover and spine using a sharp knife to cut the hinges connecting them to the book block. Skip this ste...

Re: Archivist & Co. scanning softcover books

I designed my " Tower Scanner " to do one page at a time while holding the page down on the platen. While it takes a little longer to do the scan I find that I can get better scans on all the books I scan. The problem is that many of my paperback books have very narrow or almost non-existe...
