Re: How to convert a book to serchable pdf using open source software

To my knowledge, when you feed the script posted by zbgns (thanks again for sharing, by the way) with coloured *.tiff files, e.g. colour scans of book covers, these files will turn black in the conversion process. Is there any handy solution for adding coloured book covers of the same size as the te...

Re: How to convert a book to serchable pdf using open source software

Hi! This might be a tesseract issue, but I thought I would ask my question here nonetheless. I've been using your workflow to convert a folder of tiff into one PDF. I ran the following script on the folder: ls *.tif >output.txt && tesseract -l eng -c textonly_pdf=1 output.txt text pdf && jbig2 -s -p...

Re: Scan Tailor Advanced

Could someone perhaps confirm or refute my hypothesis that the 'thickening-up of text' issue only occurs if the 'Qt5 Svg devel' package is not installed prior to building? (Cf. 4lex4's note: 'For Linux users: install Qt5 Svg devel package before building this version' - https://github.com/4lex4/sca...

Re: Scan Tailor Advanced

I'm running the '2019.8.16 Early Access' build. Does it happen to anyone else on this build that, in 'Output', text on a page gets thicker, up to the point of becoming hardly legible, once the dewarping feature is switched on? Happens to me with both automatic and marginal dewarping. EDIT: Back on 1...

Re: How to convert a book to serchable pdf using open source software

Thanks! I am already using Scantailor for cropping, but am looking for software that would get rid of excess white space around text, and fingers, to edit my scans with before I start working with Scantailor. I use Scan Tailor Advanced for this, i.e. in order manually select area, where STA looks a...

Re: How to convert a book to serchable pdf using open source software

Does anyone know of useful software for cropping scans that runs on Mac Os? I think this thread answers more or less to your question: https://forum.diybookscanner.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&p=21785&sid=0ab34fa7fd0f5ee70fc925d0d99c4f21#p21785 In short, I would recommend Scan Tailor Advanced. It is able...

Re: How to convert a book to serchable pdf using open source software

First crop all images to include only the book page. My https://github.com/nod5/BookCrop is a quick but rough Windows tool for that but there are other methods out there. Also Scan Tailor Advanced offers this crop function - 'Page Box' at the 'Select Content' stage. Unfortunately this is not able t...

Re: Scan Tailor Advanced

I know your inquiries re: macOS are a few months old, now, but I wanted to note I was able to compile in macOS High Sierra on an 2013 Macbook Pro. While I did get some warnings during the build process, nothing failed outright. The latest version of the source (as of 2018-07-23 -- 1.0.16) did appea...
