Re: Scanner in a Briefcase

Sorry, missed the notification email for this reply until cleaning out an inbox. I did in fact bring back a pile of these things from the UK. I have moved house since, so we shall see if I can actually lay hands on them but somewhere in my house is an envelope with a bunch of these. Email me at dave...

FYI - when I go to London in a few weeks I'm going to come back with this envelope and will mail out a pair of these things in the USA to anyone that asks (while supplies last.)

Re: Original ~600pg/hr, very portable scanner now achieving ~900pg-1100pg/hr

Thanks for the input. I will fiddle with the configuration of the arm and see if I can get it connected to the back of the desk. At this point, I'm looking for any speed ups I can find so will be fine-tuning all that. I'm firmly in the ~600 page/hour range and want to get that closer to 1000. FYI re...

Thanks for the reply. I posted my blog last night, long discussion of the ins and outs of my experience. I also posted my bash script equivalents of yours to GitHub in case anyone wants to fiddle with them. http://evilgeniuschronicles.org/2018/09/25/my-build-of-the-tiflic-diy-bookscanner/ https://gi...

Re: Original ~600pg/hr, very portable scanner now achieving ~900pg-1100pg/hr

dpc was on the money. I got my Siconi mat and then scanned a book. It held MUCH better than my previous mat. By holding it in place reliably it meant that I scanned faster and that the output was more consistent and thus had better results out of Scan Tailor and OCR. Thanks for the suggestion. One o...

Re: Original ~600pg/hr, very portable scanner now achieving ~900pg-1100pg/hr

You sold me. What I was using was not that sticky. Just ordered the Siconi and will give it a shot. I'm just doing experiments right now. Eventually I have several hundred science fiction digest sized magazines that I want to scan and dispose of, so anything that makes this faster and more repeatabl...

I had something a lot like that and it still slid around enough to be a problem. I made a few tweaks last night and it seemed to work better.

Re: Original ~600pg/hr, very portable scanner now achieving ~900pg-1100pg/hr

I have built this design. I've scanned one paperback and one hardback so far to get the feel for it. It works after a fashion, but I'm still trying to solve the issues of physical drift of the book as I turn the pages. I'm experimenting with clamping dowels and creating some physical framing to hold...
