ABBYY for compression?
I heard that ABBYY Fine Reader does a better job at compression than Acrobat. I’ve been using Acrobat for OCR and making compressed PDFs and have not been satisfied with the results. Q 1: I was wondering if I could use ABBYY to re-compress my existing PDFs, or if I would have to use ABBYY to create ...

Re: Creating a Digital Library
Hi John. Thanks for posting.
Just curious, what kind of cutter is that? And how much did it cost? I think I might need something like that.

Re: Fujitsu ix500 vs fi-7160 - CIS vs CCD sensor comparison
This is fascinating.
There seems to be little if any difference between the CIS and CCD sensor. In fact, in many of your samples, the CIS sensor looks better. There seems to be slightly more contrast in the text. The color photo shows more natural, less red saturation for the CIS sensor.
Thanks!

Re: Please recommend paper cutter
Thanks, I looked into getting books cut at Staples. They wanted $4.00 per book. I quickly gave up that idea, as I have about 250 books.

Re: Please recommend paper cutter
Thanks. There are all kinds of junk products out there that people buy. How can business sell any if they are so bad? Easy, no affordable quality alternatives, people get used to low quality products, and products are just cheap enough to take a chance on. That's interesting about the scissors. I ha...

Please recommend paper cutter
I've been doing a lot of online research looking for heavy duty paper cutters (those that cut 400+ pages at a time). There are quite a few different models out there. The same issues come up in almost every review however: - does not cut straight up and down - does not align paper properly - does no...

I don't understand. You live in Hungary, but you want someone specifically in California to scan library books for you?

Re: Newbie questions about cameras
Thanks. My output will be PDFs. I will be using Scan Tailor and/or BookScan Wizard. I'd prefer a two-page scanner, and have my own design in mind.
I'm just looking for cameras right now, and trying to understand what I need, what my options are, and what's available.

Re: Newbie questions about cameras
Thanks. I have about 600 books to scan, approximately 350 pages each on average. They are mostly academic books, and almost all are tightly bound paperback. Some are larger hardbound books. That's why I thought a shutterless camera might be more cost effective in the long run, especially if I have t...
