Re: Nice Archivist build post at the r/datahoarder subreddit
My I suggest to adjust colour in your yearbooks. In photoshop and Lightroom you can tell that the background (the page itself) is white. Especially in Lightroom you can do the complete book in 1 time so the whole book has white pages instead of the faded yellow. Also adjusting sharpness will make a...

Re: Using SORAA Snap System Beam Spreader - Uneven Lighting
Thought I'd give an update on where I'm at. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions! Really appreciate it :) The explanation about the spine reflections makes sense. It's a bummer I can't get rid of them completely, but fortunately they only show up in my worst case scenario tests. Thanks to my...

Re: Using SORAA Snap System Beam Spreader - Uneven Lighting
It's 100 degrees, I CNC'ed and laser cut the parts directly from the Archivist plans so it's almost exactly to the specifications laid out on diybookscanner.org/archivist although with lots of deviations in fasteners. This entire post is about the snap system, haha. As seen in my above linked exampl...

Re: Using SORAA Snap System Beam Spreader - Uneven Lighting
I bought some Lenticular lenses direct from Tenrec and did a cursory comparison here: https://imgur.com/a/lbu5AjO As you can see the biggest difference comes from when I properly align my cameras. The lighting is still uneven but it's reaching a point of acceptability to me. I'm a perfectionist and ...

Re: Using SORAA Snap System Beam Spreader - Uneven Lighting
Yeah I'll probably break down and buy some power adapters and a Rasberry pi for slicker control. Can Pi Scan import Raw files from the cameras as well as JPG? I'm going to be shooting in Raw since the A6000's default color profiles leave a lot to be desired. I actually have a Kobo Aura One. Only jus...

Re: Using SORAA Snap System Beam Spreader - Uneven Lighting
It does look like you're getting good results with your setup. Unfortunately the A6000 does not charge via USB when powered. That feature came in later, newer, more expensive cameras. From my limited testing it also doesn't do dual tethering very well. An SD cable is an interesting idea, I'll look i...

Re: Using SORAA Snap System Beam Spreader - Uneven Lighting
I'm using dual Sony A6000's, they're overkill but they'll be able to do a nice job with the yearbooks I'm going after. I think my light and height will be fine, I built my archivist to almost the same specs as the kit so the given lights and lenticular lenses should work as advertised on the guide. ...

Re: Using SORAA Snap System Beam Spreader - Uneven Lighting
I experimented with making the light higher, I think it helped, but it makes the thing even bigger than it already is and a little precarious haha. I'm going to get the lenses it was designed to be used with and try those out. It should work fine with those. Definitely need to do the fine calibratio...

Using SORAA Snap System Beam Spreader - Uneven Lighting
So I just completed a DIY build of the plywood Archivist book scanner. Yay! I stayed almost entirely to spec as I was lucky enough to have friends with easy access to laser and CNC cutters. One area I strayed\experimented was using the Soraa 00329 60 Degree Beam Spreader ( https://www.1000bulbs.com/...
