Re: A2200

You can "build" a different sort of USB remote button to see if it's your button or your CHDK settings. Plug a USB power adapter into a power strip with an on/off switch, and flip the switch on, then off, to take a photo: http://www.diybookscanner.org/forum/vie ... 890#p16890

Internet Archive tabletop Scribe scanner (TT Scribe)

At the Internet Archive annual event tonight, they mentioned a new Scribe model. I didn't watch the stream (and haven't seen a link for it yet), but it's described in the main event announcement as a: Table-top book scanner that works with back-end Archive technology and staff to create beautiful on...

Re: Book Liberator beta

Ironically, the second Nokia 1020 and the Book Liberator arrived before the Amazon order with the smartphone tripod adapters. I'm not sure I'll have time to assemble it this weekend, but it ships in a 20"×14"×6" box (the tracking notice says 10.2lbs), and the interior box is 15"×12.5"×4". The acryli...

Book Liberator beta

Question Copyright has finally(!) launched their beta for their cube-shaped Book Liberator unit. Just ordered one. Wood, fixed camera-platen distance, no lighting, you lift the whole unit out of the cradle to turn the page. Looks heavy and tiring. http://bookliberator.com I predict glare issues. I'l...

Re: Nokia PureView 41MP

Just an FYI, used Nokia 1020s are all over eBay for as little as $100.

I no longer use mine as my primary phone, and I just ordered a second one (black, cracked screen, working digitizer, not unlocked, clean IMEI) for $112 out the door, to try with the new Book Liberator beta.

Re: LCD (Least Complicated Device)

So... Now I need a non-destructive scanner in Texas at an unknown point in time but probably within the next week or so to scan ~18 books--some 2000-3000 pages. No time like after you begin to start planning right? Yeah, 8MP is not great, and smartphone lenses don't let you focus as well as you nee...

Re: Nokia PureView 41MP

Huhn. So, apparently there's a 16:9 and 4:3 toggle that I missed. The photo I posted is 16:9 34MP, which is 7712x4352. The 4:3 mode is 38MP, 7136x5360, only 700px narrower, but over 1000px taller. I'll have to try both, I guess.

Re: Nokia PureView 41MP

Yeah, I noticed. I'm pretty sure I told it to focus on the right side of the image, as it was hand-held in my right hand while I held blackout curtain up with the other, so I'm going to chalk it up to user error. If I can find my tripod (or borrow one, or set up clamps or something), I'll have time ...

Nokia PureView 41MP

My Nokia Lumia 1020 arrived, and I've uploaded a single test photo I took with it. I don't have a good home setup for one-off shots like this, so I'm not prepared to take additional ones. It wasn't on a tripod, the lighting is overhead fluorescents, I didn't do a custom white balance, and you can se...

Re: Canon Considering Withdrawing from Compact Camera market

In fact, I am shopping for a Nokia 1020 right now to do some image quality comparisons with one. I just pulled the trigger on a used one on eBay. There are units as low as $200 on there, with bad ESNs (can't use them on a US cell network, because they weren't paid off or were reported lost/stolen) ...
