Re: Should you always enable resolution enhancement?

Think about it this way: When you binarize, you lose halftones. When your e-book reader software downscales a high-res page closer to screen DPI, it maps each screen pixel to a group of high-res pixels. Assuming the high-res pixels are B/W, it sets the brightness of the screen pixel to be the fracti...

Re: scan tailor experimental - best video card?

I have a laptop with GeForce 760m graphics card. From what I remember, enabling OpenCL on that card boosts performance of the Output stage by about two times. Other stages (apart from dewarping on the Deskew stage) gain very little. There are some actual benchmarks (not from me though) on the "Scan ...

Re: scan tailor experimental - best video card?

In image processing applications, GPU memory bandwidth tends to be the bottleneck. So, your performance / cost ratio may well be the "memory bandwidth / cost" ratio. For memory bandwidth of a particular graphics card, consult Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nvidia_graphics_processin...

Re: Scan Tailor "Experimental"

I see the issue. But do you think the experimental branch could be managed similarly to the main one? Maybe it could, if there is enough interest from the community. But then, what's the point? Right now, when you report a bug or submit a feature request on the main branch, you get a polite respons...

Re: Scan Tailor "Experimental"

perhaps it would be easier to manage as a collaborative project? It's already managed like that. Well, not the Experimental branch but the main one. There are people who respond to bug reports and can accept a patch, yet hardly any development is going on. The thing is, I am not the only one who do...

Re: Scan Tailor "Experimental"

Have you considered turning it into a crowdfunded/donation-supported or (partly) paid project? I haven't tried crowdfunding but I used to accept donations. I stopped when donations pretty much died down. Just to give you an idea: At the peak of donations I was receiving something equivalent of 3 da...

Not really. I haven't touched it in a while.

The fun stuff is done and the boring stuff requires quite a bit of effort to get done. Doing something you don't enjoy for free doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Re: Splitting pages produces miniature page images

Either use Scan Tailor Experimental with "Match size by scaling" option or classic Scan Tailor with "Match size with other pages" turned off for all pages. The latter option only makes sense if you are only going to OCR the results rather than build a PDF / DJVU file.

Re: Splitting pages produces miniature page images

If you are trying to output some double-page scans as a single page (let's say a large diagram over two pages), you need to uncheck "Match size with other pages" on the Margins stage for such pages. If not, it's possible your double-page scans were made with a different DPI compared to single-page o...

Re: Scan Tailor Experimental no-DPI causing issues with pdfbeads and imagemagick

2) to ask Tulon if Scan Tailor experimental could have an option to set a file DPI (or at least to preserve existing information instead of stripping it); It's not impossible, though I am not working on ST at the moment. BTW, I really appreciate Scan Tailor experimental; it's an immensely useful pr...
