Daniel Reetz, the founder of the DIY Book Scanner community, has recently started making videos of prototyping and shop tips. If you are tinkering with a book scanner (or any other project) in your home shop, these tips will come in handy. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn0gq8 ... g_8K1nfInQ

Re: Scan Tailor

Hmm, that method seems to rely on the presence of text lines. I'm always worried that whatever algorithm is used will not take into account pages with only pictures or graphs. For such cases we would just create a manual mode. I heard (even seen some screenshots) that Photoshop has such a plugin. F...

Re: Scan Tailor

Anyway, I'm currently playing around with algorithms that will compensate for keystoning, distortion, and skew all at once, and hopefully compensate for illumination, but it relies on a calibration image that has to be inserted in the book every N pages (N probably 100 or so). See this thread for t...

Re: Scan Tailor

That was a nasty thread, I hope we never have such problems over here. The touched-up machine translation made it really hard to read. I agree with you -- if he's going to come after you, at least use English, so most everyone can understand the slander. Have you actually read beyond the first page...

Re: Scan Tailor

Well, the book scanning community in Russia is quite prolific. I would say no less than 10 scanned books get published daily, although some of them are beautification efforts on scans released earlier. The largest and the oldest legal site is http://www.lib.ru It exists since 1994 and hasn't changed...

Re: Scan Tailor

One image I'm is a little dark, and it's one of the ones that it has a problems with. It's too big to attach, can I email it to you? In the Russian community we just upload stuff to rapidshare.com or a similar service, and then post a link to it in the forum. Posting a couple of pages should be fin...

Re: Scan Tailor

I am actually surprised you've managed to build it on a Mac. Is Qt in darwinports the native one, or the X11 one? If it's the former, I would expect you to hit problems with my direct calls to XRender, which is probably not available on Mac. If it's the latter, well - that kind of configuration is c...

Re: Scan Tailor

Hi everyone! I am Scan Tailor's author. Daniel Reetz kindly invited me to this forum, and believe me or not, until that moment I didn't know book scanning communities even exist in western countries. Indeed, I had like 3 English speaking users giving me feedback from time to me, and the rest were Ru...
