Daniel Reetz, the founder of the DIY Book Scanner community, has recently started making videos of prototyping and shop tips. If you are tinkering with a book scanner (or any other project) in your home shop, these tips will come in handy. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn0gq8 ... g_8K1nfInQ

Re: Site Reorganization (HELP PLEASE)

1. The shadow topic seems to do that: http://wiki.phpbb.com/Shadow_topic . It provides a redirect to the new topic, which Google will hopefully follow while crawling. 2. Yep, that sounds good. The Hardware category receives the most attention, so I'd imagine you want to do that the quickest. Maybe a...

Re: Site Reorganization (HELP PLEASE)

I think the Software section is also due for a cleanup. Maybe you could create a Help section, a section for Scripts & Software (possibly a Requests subcategory) and a Tutorials section? Also, if you ever need any help with any sort of web design (both clientside and serverside), I have experience i...

Re: Bindery

I rewrote that file a few months ago and incorporated it into Bindery (it was a bit messy and I wanted to see how it worked). The PDFs were tiny, but they were all completely bitonal (even the images). PDFs support image layers and I was able to separate the text from the images and convert the text...

Re: Bindery

Sadly, I cannot get PDF binding to work after two weeks of tinkering. I can generate the JBIG2 and JPEG2000 components of the individual pages just fine, but I can't figure out how to merge them into layers. If only pdfbeads was written in Python...

Re: Need help processing color images after scanning

Scan Tailor has a "Mixed" mode in the output stage which attempts to separate images from text. Try enabling it (the default is "Black and White").

Re: i want to improve my OCR

The process has been automated for about a year now and it works beautifully. You probably aren't using a recent build. Try Scan Tailor Enhanced (it's from 12-13-2011).

Re: Postprocessing: The hardware/software divide

Most of the problems people are facing have already been solved, to tell you the truth, but nobody has made the solutions available to the masses. Merging folders is a simple task and can be done with a few CLI tools on Linux, but many of our users don't know how to use the CLI. Maybe if we could so...

Re: Bindery

I've been cooking up a few more features this past week: I almost have PDF binding ready. I've looked over the source of pdfbeads for inspiration and my PDFs are coming out almost identical in size. Metadata is mostly functional. You can add titles, descriptions, and authors to PDF files. I'm workin...

Re: Difficulties using the forums and the wiki

Are you saying that in your current code, you have this line?

Code: Select all

$wgGroupPermissions['*']['createaccount'] = false;
If so, why not make it true instead of false?

In case anyone wants a peek at the source of my project, I've created a GitHub repository.

Just browse the source right over here.
