Try to reset the configuration on your cameras and set them both to the settings described here: https://github.com/markvdb/diybookscanner/blob/master/misc/settings.md Do not configure anything in the CHDK menus. Make sure you run CHDK 1.30 (unstable). Additionally, I think it worth to reset CHD...

Some old models supports USB trigger, but even with gphoto, recent Canon P&S models does not support remote capture. See this table: http://www.gphoto.org/proj/libgphoto2/support.php

Probably, CHDK-DE build preference was selected. Select Development (1.3) CHDK.

USB remote capture command and USB trigger works thanks to CHDK, those functions are not supported by standard Canon firmware.

If your camera does not support filewrite support, it is possible to ask for the support posting to CHDK international forum. This thread in particular discuss the implementation of fwt for several cameras. Or post the request to the corresponding model porting thread.

I'm curious about feasibility of integrate DSLRs and spreads, has someone tested that?
D5200 and Rebel T2i are supported by libgphoto, then in theory it can be integrated to spreads. Thanks

I don't have access to Nikon cameras, but D5200 is supported by libgphoto2, Image Capture, Liveview, Configuration should work.
