If you change the firmware on the camera, can it be changed back later? Or once it's changed does it make the camera a 'DIY bookscanner camera only?' SX500 and SX510 have 30x optical zoom, I think you don't need that for book scanning. SX160 is supported by CHDK. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SX160 In theory, you can use any model supported by CHDK, but each port have its bugs and features.
