Laser Scan Methods
This thread is to collect resources and discussion about how to use line focused lasers to improve book scanning. Overall idea: Line-focused lasers projected at an angle towards an open book will describe a curve based on the shape of the pages of that book. An 'ideal' book with perfectly straight p...

Re: how to straighten curved text?
In the 'output' step, you can enable dewarping (which is different than deskewing). See if that helps in your case. I've used it with great success, but you might have to tweak the box it uses for title pages or other special pages. It definitely helps with keystoning issues. I would be interested t...

Re: software to automatically remove fingers?
Have you tried Scan Tailor? There is a sub-forum devoted to it with installation instructions, etc. I recommend watching the tutorial video. One of the important things it does is that it detects the text within the page pretty consistently. This lets you make sure that margins remain consistent and...

Re: Best camera settings for Canon A2200?
My preferred A2200 settings: Color, White balance: Tungsten (I have halogen lights) Shutter speed: 1/500 or 1/750 (This compensates for the bright lights and reduces the possible glare from outside light) ISO: 80 FIle type: JPG Zoom level: 4 (zoom in as much as you can for high DPI) I've been using ...

Re: Spreads Problems and Solutions
The pdfbeads issue is a bit confusing, but I ended up just using another tool that was almost as automated to make the pdf files. I did run a scan postprocess (and configure) in debug mode and nothing even mentioning pdfbeads appeared. I've given up on it for now and might look into it again if/when...

Re: New Standard Build with Lego Cradle
One of my two cameras didn't work (could not focus on the page properly and would not recharge). So I bit the bullet and bought two refurbished A2200 cameras with AC packs. At the same time, I got two gooseneck mounts and installed CHDK/Spreads so that I could control everything from my laptop. With...

Spreads Problems and Solutions
I've now got Spreads installed and working. It allows for an amazing and efficient workflow. But in order to get here, I had to spend a large amount of time figuring out how to install it and its dependencies because unexpected problems kept coming up. This thread is for people with problems install...

Re: New Standard Build with Lego Cradle
I am using two cameras. One of the deficiencies of my setup is that they are not the same camera or even the same resolution camera. So my scans for facing pages will be subtly difference, with one side in 12 MP resolution and the other side in 10 MP resolution. Right now I'm manually pressing the b...

Re: New Standard Build with Lego Cradle
Thanks! I'll try changing the white balance setting. I was afraid that I'd have to color-correct in post-processing.

New Standard Build with Lego Cradle
I've been working off of the New Standard Build tutorial. I have a hand drill, no saw, and little experience. After having the hardware store cut my 2x4's for me, I began with a standard base and columns: https://files.app.net/2g9dj3Dkj The cradle in the build required a saw for the triangular piece...
