Re: Spreads on Linux Mint: First Impressions

I'm on the current release of Crunchbang (which is basically just Debian Stable (Wheezy) with an openbox setup and some scripts on top) and the install was pretty painless. The Pyside link seems to be unneccessary here. So, for anyone on Debian, it's just: sudo apt-get install pip python-pyside pip ...

Re: Dewarping with a regular calibration point grid

mhr, Thanks again for writing this great tool! Adding the 16 bit ppm capability is a nice addition. That should make some of the RAW stuff easier. Thanks also for giving us another option for automatically determining DPI. Royeven's method seems to be pretty accurate in my tests, but I'm very intere...

Re: Daniel Learns About Spreads (on Windows, at least)

Hey Dan, I'm not on Windows, nor have I tried Spreads yet, but I have done some Python. (I guess I've gone complacent with my own sets of scripts and haven't tried the new stuff, which does look awesome) I assume that you just need to install the python YAML module. http://pyyaml.org/wiki/PyYAML Sin...

Re: Scantailor preprocess script

Thanks for the sample. I played with it a little, but I've got to take off and won't be able to get to it until late tonight. I managed to get pretty close. It's tricky because of the bottom right corner being so different in color to the rest. It's going to be finicky to get that to work, but could...

Re: Scantailor preprocess script

That's cool that it can run on Macs! It looks like it is failing back at the ppmunwarp calibration stage. Without a sample image, I can propose two issues that seem to be the most common. It's detecting A LOT of points, but only about half were considered good enough to use. Here are my guesses: 1. ...

Re: scanned books repositories?

imslp is outstanding! It's been aruond for such a long time. (albeit first as the Petrucci Music Library) They've even branched off into reprints! I wish more repositories would offer that service. (And it could be a money spinner for some of the library archives, since with POD services, it's very ...

Re: Frustrated with Margins - resulting in 8 questions

I too found Scantailor a little strange until I had processed a few dozen books with it. Once I figured things out, it's completely brilliant! I'll answer those questions which I am able to do. I use a script file that does the geometry correction and cropping that's pretty similar to YASW and befor...

Re: Copyright Infringement

I wonder if a mod might want to move this thread out of Hardware into Social? I'm not sure who you suggest are colluding with whom, so I’m not sure how to answer your query. I’ll hit a couple possibilities. Authors’ Guild: I see your point there. That’s why the initial settlement was so bad. It upse...

Re: Scantailor preprocess script

It seems like UFRaw does something strange with tif files...I get error messages from imagemagick when it opens each tif. It still gets the job done though, so it doesn't really matter. If those error messages bother you when using the raw_color method, it's pretty simple to hide those messages. Jus...

Re: Scantailor preprocess script

To report about the bug: The problem was happening in the initial conversion from the raw format. Then every other step failed too. (I really should add exit codes and errors, I just don't want too...) The solution, however, was pretty simple. I just spent a few minutes playing with imagemagick and ...
