Re: Scantailor preprocess script

My instinct is suggesting that the ppm files that imagemagick is making are somehow not compatible with ppmunwarp. Since your file manager doesn't seem to be thumbnailing them, I figure that might be the problem. (Of course, I'm not sure if your file manager thumbs ppm files anyway) Since we also se...

Re: Green screen auto-clipping

That's a very clever idea. The only concern I'd have about it is that having bright backgrounds when photographing does tend to reduce the contrast of the shots a little bit. I haven't tried cropping green screen images before. Here's a useful forum discussion of someone doing the green screen with ...

Re: Scantailor preprocess script

Hmmm... So it appears that the conversion to ppm is going okay. If my next suggestion is wrong, could you please confirm that the initial conversion is happening properly. (imagemagick should spit out an error message if it wasn't) Those files would appear in the working folder. The first failure oc...

Re: Scantailor preprocess script

Could I see the entire log file? I don't think I have enough information to answer properly. I'll speculate though, because that's what men do even when we don't have enough data. (I'm suddenly picturing the guys on King of the Hill all giving different reasons why a truck won't start) While you are...

Re: Scantailor preprocess script

There's no problem with noob questions that are asked clearly like you did! Have you compiled ppmunwarp yet? The cpp file is just the source. Compile it on Linux using: g++ -o ppmunwarp ppmunwarp.cpp That will produce a file called ppmunwarp (no extension) Put it wherever you want. There are three w...

Re: Copyright Infringement

IANAL - I will attempt to explain things as I understand them in the vernacular rather than legalese. Talk about jumping to conclusions across the board... A little more time reflecting on things before making a judgement is probably warranted. First of all, Universities are definitely not AFOI. Loc...

Re: Scantailor preprocess script

Tkr, 1. ppmunwarp has no problems with curves, provided the calibration image shares that curve. (I haven't tested to see how far it can be pushed) I believe that the author of the program was intending on building a scanning setup with a curve in it! (I assume for loose sheets rather than books) Fr...

Re: Automatic colour calibration using Argyll CMS

Brava! It's astonishing what a difference eliminating ambient lighting makes! Seeing that photo of the calibration card is the perfect example of why light shrouds are necessary. (I miss mine, and should really come up with a new system) Thanks for all those great examples! (And there's just somethi...

Re: Scantailor preprocess script

If your goal is to have text output, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference to fix color. Since Scantailor will binarize text, there is no real reason unless you have images. (I just do it all of the time regardless, since I have to run an imagemagick step anyway to get ppm images for unwarping, ...

Re: Automatic colour calibration using Argyll CMS

Misty, Thanks a lot for showing us that! I have one small question. From what I remember, those scanner-calibration cards are pretty reflective. Is there an issue with the reflective nature of the material interfering with the color detection? I've had problems with glossy book pages in the past. Ju...
