Re: Training, by W. G. George, 1902
Okay, so first I looked at the right images, and I measured the page edge using Photoshop. I measured as best I could, since in most cases it's difficult to discern the edge of the page. This is why I like to use text for measurement Ah, I get it. The full-page text blocks, from the top of the page...

Here are the scans if you'd like to try playing with them yourself: Camera's viewpoint of the platen (5MB JPG) ISO test image from the first batch of scans (5MB JPG) Left-side page scans (437MB ZIP) Right-side page scans (431MB ZIP) My six-page sample assembly from my previous post (1.5MB PDF) The p...

Re: Training, by W. G. George, 1902
There aren't any color images, they're black-and-white, but I don't see how to tell Scan Tailor to make them grayscale while also keeping the text as monochrome. Guess that's a post-post-processing step. Here's a PDF of six pages. Specifying approximate DPIs for the three sets gets me pretty close, ...

Re: Training, by W. G. George, 1902
Even carefully duplicating my configuration across sessions and battery charges, I ended up with three sets of photos, each with a slightly different zoom level (although the camera reported 1.9x each time), so I have three slightly different DPIs. Also, some of the pages have content that spills in...

Re: Seebach's build blog
What I got out of reading the lighting threads was that you want something closest to natural daylight, minus the UV. That means something like a GE Reveal incandescent (what I'm currently using) or another "daylight" or "full spectrum" incandescent, or an LED bulb that is the sa...

Re: I'd like to pay someone to scan a book for me ..
That's pretty interesting. Can you prove you have the copyrights? I'm not sure where it was originally published, but it looks like the first book may be in the public domain in the US: the first edition was published in 1952 here, and I can't find evidence of a copyright renewal. I don't see any of...

Training, by W. G. George, 1902
A friend of mine is a pretty hardcore fitness-for-fun sort of guy, does those crazy races where you're running through mud carrying a log, that sort of thing, and his interests include barefoot running and proper form for long-distance running and ultramarathoning. In November 2011, in the New York ...

Re: Sola Technical's $70 acrylic scanning platform on Ponoko
Here we go! I expect this to be my final post in this thread (barring answering questions or performing any further suggested tests), as I've begun scanning a book and don't see a reason to make further changes to the design of the blackout tower, except for holding the thing together with more than...

Since I'm not otherwise contributing to this scanner while I'm finishing putting my other one through its paces, I'll order the year's sub for G-Wizard, or PayPal you the $70-plus-fees to cover it, Daniel or Rob. PM me your preference.

Re: Sola Technical's $70 acrylic scanning platform on Ponoko
Before the hacking I had made a post here about the problem might being the distance from camera to platen. I based that on the fact that a Sony DSC-W570 has a minimum focusing distance of only 5 cm when zoom isn’t used (wide) but 1 meter with the zoom maxed (tele) as seen here: http://www.digitalr...
