Re: Smartphone and Cardboard box solution

The text in your PDF images look more gray instead of black. Is that due to something in your post-processing or did the anti-glare glass contribute to that?

LOL. I'm putting the finishing touches on a new scanner and if I ever get around to posting pics of it here it's going to this book in the cradle.

Re: Smartphone and Cardboard box solution

That should work. You might see the light reflected off of the platen in your shots when photographing dark pages. I made a scanner similar to this a decade or so ago just to gather images to work on my post-processing pipeline. It differed from your design in that it had two "wings", one ...

One other thing, about the pipe. Looks like 20mm, is that right? I can get it in glossy black but I wonder if spraying it matte might reduce reflections. You can take some fine sandpaper or steel wool and it will knock the sheen off of a gloss finish. And even if you try it and don't like the way t...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

Had to look up how to tie some knots, so I have a figure-of-eight loop creating the loops that go around the smartphones, and a couple half hitches in tandem on each side attaching the other end to a stick up high. LOL. I've been a member of these forums for 10 years and while there are a number of...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

It would be helpful if you posted an image containing the mystery "line reflection". My guess from looking at your previously posted photos of your partially completed scanner is that you're seeing a reflection of the gray USB cable going to that right-side camera. Also a final picture of ...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

For the residual reflections you are seeing, remember that dpc has a proven method for removing those in software. Are you referring to the post-processing step that is used to compensate for uneven lighting across the page? I'm not sure that would work very well for mitigating reflections because ...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

The height of the light can change without producing a reflection if you change the size of the pages. That is, you may have to position the light higher for books with large pages, but when scanning smaller pages the light can be lowered since the area of the platen that is reflecting an image of t...

Re: PVC pipe scanner with 100 degree platen

The 100 deg. platen angle prevents the image of the adjacent platen pane from being reflected into the shot, not the light. In order to prevent the light from reflecting off of the platen you have to raise the height of the light over the platen and/or decrease your cameras' viewing angle by moving ...
