Re: DIY Book Scanner Kits Now Available!

Johannes, I believe that the cradle wing is in there as well. You won't want to cut it out of 19mm baltic birch plywood. You will instead need to cut it out of 12mm plywood. If the cradle wing isn't part of that file, let me know and I can link you to a DXF for just the cradle wing. That may be the ...

Re: Using pi-scan

rduz, it looks like you might be going with a different setup now (one that doesn't use Pi Scan). But if you still want to resolve your Pi Scan issues, let me know and I will be happy to help you get things working. As an aside, there is another alternative to Pi Scan called TwoCamControl. This is a...

Re: DIY Book Scanner Kits Now Available!

The link at the top of the page should be fixed. Please let me know if you see any other broken links that need to be fixed as well.

Re: DIY Book Scanner Kits Now Available!

gutto12, I see the broken link and I will repair it. I'll post here when it is fixed (should be within a day or so). However, this is an older model scanner which has since been replaced by Daniel's Archivist design. The Archivist is much better documented and can also be cut out with a CNC. Take a ...

Re: What is the best lighting for a variety of applications for a “Beta”?

That scanner is a 'hackerspace' model. You can tell because of the all-plywood construction including a plywood handlebar. If you want to upgrade the lighting for that scanner, there are two threads you can pull. First, you can buy high quality LEDs rather than the lights you bought for it. SORAA 00...

Re: One or two cameras in the scanner...

CHDK can be complicated to install in the general case because there are so many different cameras and firmware versions it supports. However, things are somewhat easier for ELPH 160 cameras in particular (which is why I recommend them). Take a look at the Pi Scan documentation here: https://github....

Re: One or two cameras in the scanner...

If you have just one camera, things become much easier. You may not need the Raspberry Pi at all, for example. If you already have an IXUS 160 camera, I can give you some advice about how to best use it. If you don't have an IXUS 160 camera, you might want to look for a camera with built-in remote c...

Re: Archivar - wooden scanner based on Archivist

I was never able to ensure that the frame was square enough for camera alignment to just work with fixed placement of the camera. The card-and-mirror camera alignment system came out of that to allow a perfectly aligned camera even if the frame is slightly out of square. The big disadvantage of the ...

Re: Archiving the Forums?

There was some followup in email. Basically, we need a script to pull out the public information from the database periodically and save it off. This is different from a normal backup because we only want to pull some information from the database. I talked about this some with Jacob, but he hasn't ...
