Re: BSF-Auto - Robot book scanner reads 250 pages per minute

Looks to me like it will work on nicely behaved books, but it seems to expect the turned page to just lay down. I've got plenty of paperbacks that are so tightly bound the book tries to close if you aren't holding both sides open. Anyway, there are an awful lot of nicely behaved books, so at least i...

Re: My Android Camera Arrived

Well, that's disappointing: Nikon doesn't provide access to the full capabilities of the S800c from the standard android Camera API. The highest resolution image you can take using the standard APIs is 3264x2448 (8 MP) versus the actual full resolution of the camera which is 4608x3456 (16 MP). If I ...

Re: Samsung DV300F - Built in WiFi & 16MP

I just got the Nikon Coolpix S800c which has android on the camera itself and I'm working on a custom program to implement lots of trigger options (like motion detection and light level detection), but it is definitely more expensive than the Samsung DV300F. I've got one app mostly working that adds...

Re: My Android Camera Arrived

I propped a bunch of stuff together and used some rubber bands and wot-not to rig up a way to try taking a photo of a paperback page using a scheme more or less like what I want to eventually do with a better put together system, and it looks pretty good I think (you can't even really tell there is ...

My Android Camera Arrived

Nothing much photographed yet, but various initial ramblings are recorded here: http://home.comcast.net/~tomhorsley/hardware/nikon/nikon.html Biggest disadvantage for book scanning seems to be that you can't operate the camera while it is plugged in and charging, so the duration of a scanning sessio...

Re: Another android camera may be coming

And now I've actually ordered the Nikon (they showed up on amazon this morning - the 28th). It will be interesting to see if they actually implement all the Camera controls available in the android APIs (the phone I've been testing software with is mostly automatic and won't let you actually manipul...

Re: whats this device ?

Looks like this is called a gobo projector to be exact: http://blogs.terrorware.com/geoff/2010/08/10/low-rent-gobo-projection/ . And that looks like something you can use for something cool (there's a YouTube video or two). But not scanning books :D I don't know, maybe you could use it to project a...

Re: Different Approach to Paperback Scanning

Here's my thoughts on paperbacks (which I'll be trying to turn into real hardware soon, but is vaporware right now). I plan to have a half platen that is just a sheet of museum glass. A book holder that allows one page to be flat with the glass on it and has a clip to hold the other half of the book...

Re: Andy Scan software for android cameras

Just a progress update: I now have the app in a state that demonstrates everything I want to do is indeed possible. Just yesterday I took a picture and automatically uploaded it to a PHP uploader running under apache on my fedora 17 desktop. Now all I need to do is turn all the demo test code into a...

Bendable light supports.

I'm working on the (hopefully) minimal hardware I'll need for my Android scanner, and I'm currently fiddling with lights, so I thought I'd run my idea past the forum in case it has been tried before and didn't work. Basically, I want to stick my CREE LEDs on copper wire stalks which I can bend at wi...
