Re: Proposed 100% Linux Workflow: Capture-Process-OCR

A quick followup- I'm assuming the ability to shoot from a single machine is fairly new, as several of the systems I've seen (including Archive.org and I think some of the older Atiz stuff) require two networked computers, one for each camera. I've seen multiple capture applications using gphoto dat...

Re: Proposed 100% Linux Workflow: Capture-Process-OCR

Yes, this is why we purchased the SX100's. Triggering is more or less simultaneous calling two instances of gphoto2 from bash. Here's the official list of supported cameras- it's pretty weird, broader than just those supported by the Canon SDK, but not all-inclusive. http://www.gphoto.org/doc/remote...

Re: Fixed camera BookScanner Design, Help

FWIW we're using only a single adjustable vertical plane and thus far are getting good results.

Re: Proposed 100% Linux Workflow: Capture-Process-OCR

Just a brief little update, progress is moving along nicely on this. Right now we're using gtkam for initial camera setup (making sure the USB assignments haven't changed, checking alignment and zoom). I'm a little unhappy with our current image preview situation- I don't know how to send keystrokes...

Re: Musinf Book Scanner

The only reason I would be concerned with play in the slide is if you're worried about it jamming/binding from uneven weight distribution, but I think you could use cheap slides and add a piece of rod or something as a guide if necessary. If you look at the slide designs on this website, most of the...

Re: Musinf Book Scanner

Yeah, I was actually planning to duplicate your design using ladder hinges, but I haven't found any sturdy enough yet (only tiny decorative ones).

sorry to jack the thread. this design is great! (le mot c'est "chouette," right?). is there a plan for mounting the cameras?

Re: Proposed 100% Linux Workflow: Capture-Process-OCR

EDITED: It's supposed to do some of that. I haven't gotten guiprep to work yet, but that was using the windows frontend. Gonna try both with & without it & see what happens.

Scan Tailor is #10! Key to the whole operation! ;)

I'm hoping to have a beta running by the end of next week.

Re: Proposed 100% Linux Workflow: Capture-Process-OCR

Sorry, to clarify it's not actually going to Project Gutenberg as an organization, just to gutcheck. Still, that's good to know- when the script names the images it's doing it sequentially, and these are the page numbers that are getting entered into MySQL, but adding some custom numbering options m...

Re: Copyright in posting PDF samples

As far as I'm concerned you're all building very unusual end tables. Oh, speaking of alternative uses, it looks like our scanner is going to be in an art show- it's a warehouse thing celebrating robots & automata! Will post pics when it happens. In all seriousness, if any of you have fair use questi...
