Re: Stgo Makerspace Book Scanner Build (standard)
Adam Savage of the Mythbusters and probably one of the Gods of Makers says that he's a big advocate of "moving" -- just doing something even though it's probably wrong because you'll gain experience to make the next one right. So fools might rush in, and makers might rush in, but that does...

Re: Daniel's Work Thread: Toward a Hackerspace Scanner
Hmm. Shouldn't the white part depth be equal to the depth between the opposite half's dark blue and light blue parts? That would be 0.40", so the depth for the white area would be 0.71 - 0.40 = 0.31"? Otherwise the right pulley half is going to stick out from the left pulley half. It'll st...

If you go through Acrobat Pro's OCR, then you will end up with a clean font. Just make sure that in the OCR dialog, you select ClearScan:

The tabs on the braces fit into the slots on the large face plates. So whatever dimensions you made those slots, that's how big the tabs have to be.

Re: Build Thread for the Hackerspace Scanner Kits
Dan, the videos you posted were great. It's kinda funny how both you and I stopped the instructions at the same point. However, anyone making a video (or anyone wanting to use the mechanical triggers) is definitely urged to go look at the trigger assembly post. The trigger assembly post, however, co...

Re: Cameras for the Hackerspace Scanner
I evaluated the Sony DSC-WX10 (16 MP) and it basically sucks . I just couldn't get it to focus well over the entire page, even with the aperture closed, which should give the most focal range. And it wouldn't focus on smaller books at all. Fuck you very much, Sony. My Canon SD1100 IS (8 MP) works gr...
