Re: Archiving the Forums?

I would say not, for two reasons. First, they don't catch everything / they don't always spider the entire site. Second, if the admins are amenable to enabling research on the site, it would be much more straightforward to just make everything accessible directly (this could be automated, too -- the...

Archiving the Forums?

Hi duerig and all other site admins, First, thank you so very much for your ongoing work running the site. This website, and the forums in particular, are, in my mind, one of the lasting gems of the internet. That's not only for the current value of the discussions happening here, but also for the h...

Re: The "Non-Destructive Guillotine" ("NDG") Scanner

First, T-slot aluminum extrusion is versatile in many of the same ways that PVC pipe is. And I happen to have a bunch of it lying around. It would be fun to try to make a similar design from T-Slot. I've never used T-slot nor seen it in action beyond your work on the Archivist Quill and assorted fo...

Re: The "Non-Destructive Guillotine" ("NDG") Scanner

duerig, thanks for your kind words! I hugely respect the work that you've been doing with the Archivist and Archivist Quill, as well as moderating the community now. I recently saw a prototype mobile scanner using 14 MP camera sensors being shown off by a professional book scanning company. When I a...

The "Non-Destructive Guillotine" ("NDG") Scanner

It's been six years since I built my first scanner. I got interested again in the topic last fall, and have been lurking here since, reading up on the developments of the community. I'm excited to share what I think is a new design: I call it the "Non-Destructive Guillotine," because it fe...

Re: First consumer automated bookscanner

This looks really interesting! I've signed up for the mailing list. :) I'm also curious to know more: What drives it (Arduino? Raspberry Pi? Something else?)? How many pages does it turn per hour? I especially like how portable it looks, and how few moving parts it looks to have. The page turning me...

Re: Image Splitter

It's also worth noting that I took my test shots in low light, so they were blurry. Thus, the program didn't always recognize the glyphs that I'd put on the platen. Having said that, when it did recognize them, it worked really well -- I took a test shot at perhaps a 75 degree angle from a page, and...

Re: Image Splitter

I was just now going to make a new post about this, when I saw yours. I emailed the author earlier this week, asking him to put a license on the code (to make clear what he's ok with other people doing with it). He very quickly and kindly responded by putting an open and permissive license on it, me...

Re: Noob Question (Help .. [Mechanical Trigger])

I found a few of the links to which univurshul referred for you. Understanding from your cross-post at http://www.diybookscanner.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=332&p=4206&hilit=mechanical+trigger#p4206 that you're looking for a USB "mechanical" trigger, the answer is yes, the a5...
