Re: Bindery
It took much longer than I anticipated, but I'm pleased to announce a functional version of Bindery with full support for DjVu and PDF binding for both Linux and Windows! I don't have the hard drive space to install Windows inside of a virtual machine to test out the software in a clean environment,...

Re: Updated: DIY E-book Creator 0.0.3
PIL works perfectly for me on Python 2.7 on Linux with the latest libpng and libjpeg libraries. I've used it for a ton of projects and it has never let me down. If you want a replacement for PIL, try out ImageMagick. It isn't a Python module, but it is a universal CLI image manipulation program that...

Re: how to get program to auto-detect page edges?
If your results are consistent, you can just crop all of your pictures by the same amount to remove the problematic edges.
I've used Phatch for batch image processing and it worked pretty well.

Re: Framework: DIY E-Book Creator
Wow, this looks amazing! I never would've thought of using a web-based solution. That's pretty neat. I just ran the webserver and the layout seems quite intuitive, so good job! Just a couple of questions: How are you planning on integrating Scan Tailor into this workflow? Are you just going to creat...

Re: light washes out text AND noise in photoshop not in ST
I think the most effective solution would be with Scan Tailor, truthfully. The binarization code could be modified so that you can define a few preset colors to choose from instead of black and white, but that isn't something that I am completely familiar with. I've coded posterization with Python b...

Re: Bindery
PDF binding works! I'll probably release a Windows version of Bindery some time this week with a bundled executable of pdfbeads. The only thing you'd need to install is Tesseract, but that's optional.

Re: light washes out text AND noise in photoshop not in ST
What are you using Scan Tailor for aside from cropping and rotating the image? I used Scan Tailor's "Mixed" mode with the automatic dewarping and got good results with very minimal tweaking. The page looks a little wavy because the book's page isn't being completely flattened by your glass sheet, so...

Re: light washes out text AND noise in photoshop not in ST
I use a single 18 MP Canon D-SLR and I can get away with higher ISOs without much quality degradation. Point-and-shoot cameras have smaller sensors and are affected more by high-ISO noise, so try keeping your ISO below 800. Mine is usually at 200-400 ISO, but my sensor size is different than yours, ...

Re: light washes out text AND noise in photoshop not in ST
I usually go for 1/60th of a second, as the high-ISO exposures get noisy.
As for the images, could you upload a sample of the input and output images to a file hosting site? I've never seen a problem like this before.

Re: Bindery
I've given up on PDF binding and will just create a wrapper around pdfbeads, as it takes care of PDF binding very well.
Hopefully I'll release a somewhat-final version of Bindery within the next few weeks.
