Re: Should you always enable resolution enhancement?

So there is no need to set output to 600 dpi for Color scans if the input is 300 dpi?
You do benefit quality-wise from doing so. Now, if you went from 600 to 1200, I would say it's not worth it.

Re: Should you always enable resolution enhancement?

There is one more reason to do resolution enhancement that I overlooked initially. That one also applies to B/W output. Consider the chain of transformations applied to your original scans before they end up on the end-user's screen: Original scan -> [lossy transformation] -> E-book -> [lossy transf...

Re: How to get the same good result for this picture using Scan Tailor

The individual TIFF output files are not expected to be small. To produce the smallest possible PDF or DJVU file from them while preserving color pictures, you need to use the Mixed output mode in Scan Tailor and to use some PDF/DJVU encoding software that knows it deals with Scan Tailor Mixed mode ...

Re: How to get the same good result for this picture using Scan Tailor

Can i install the experimental version in another directory so that i won't lose the classic version or there will be conflict between them ? Unfortunately, even if you specify a different installation directory, it still overwrites start menu items. Not a big problem though, as you can then re-ins...

Re: How to get the same good result for this picture using Scan Tailor

Thanks, fonoblax.

BTW, ST Experimental does a better job at dewarping, so you may want to give it a try after all.

Re: How to get the same good result for this picture using Scan Tailor

Scan Tailor Experimental releases are here: https://github.com/Tulon/scantailor/releases It's not going to help with lighting problems though. When output mode is B/W or Mixed, illumination equalization is always on, and there is no option to disable it. In Color / Grayscale output mode, there is a ...

Re: How to get the same good result for this picture using Scan Tailor

fonoblax , the reason you can't match the quality achieved in another thread is that the input image uploaded to the forum is a downscaled version of the input image used by ChrisG in the original thread. How do I know that? Because the version on the forum is tiny, just 1023x682 pixels and less th...

Re: ScanTaylor cropp

The Color / Grayscale output mode with "Illumination equalization" and "White margins" unchecked won't do any additional processing apart from crop and deskew, however cropping is done around the content box + margins area, so you will still have to fix any errors done on the Sel...

Re: Problem with apply manual dewarp correction on all pages

Applying (that is copying) the dewarping grid from one page to others is not implemented, as that would only work in a very controlled environment, where all the pages are perfectly aligned with respect to each other. Even with DIY bookscanner type of setup, you would still have variations in page m...

Re: ST cutting off edges of content?

It's a known issue caused by estimating the content box at a reduced resolution. It's not terribly hard to fix, except no one is currently working on ST, as far as I know.

This problem may also be limited to ST experimental or at least be less noticeable on classic ST.
