Re: New design to hold book flat

I've fooled around with platenless designs. I found the challenge to be keeping the pages flat when holding the edges. http://diybookscanner.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1180&hilit=full+auto+scanner Also something that uses pneumatics though with a glass platen: http://diybookscanner.org/f...

Re: Announcing the Archivist Quill

Semi-automatic operation should be relatively easy to do. I would use a cheap windshield wiper motor, adjustable speed control, and a deadman foot-switch. Lift would be adjustable for different book sizes thus saving time.

Re: Announcing the Archivist Quill

One weight per arm. Re-positioning the weights farther from the pivot increases the counterbalancing force. Also, fixed weights are attached to the handle to counterbalance the empty cradle before attaching the movable weights. In this way, the movable weights counterbalance only the books instead o...

Re: Scanning postcards?

A slight improvement on deurig's method would be to make a frame so you don't have to visually align the cards before each shot. Just drop one in, trigger the shutter, and repeat. The frame could be made of four small sticks taped down to the table. Leave the corners open to make it easier to pick u...

Re: Footsie Bookscanner

Another idea: If you get the book perfectly counterbalanced, you could keep one hand under the book/sling to raise it to and lower it from the fixed platen. Your hand passes through a strap attached to the sling in order to "pull" the book away from the platen. The free hand flips pages an...

Re: Footsie Bookscanner

For the support under the book, I think you could do away with all the rigid bits and hold the book in sort of sling made of fabric. I imagine the sling held by two arms that pivot together like David's platen-raising mechanism. An adjustable counter-weight would be nice to accommodate books of diff...

Still using the Canon A480's rigged to pneumatic shutter pressers. Some day better cameras with electronic triggering. New page turning air blast via venturi effect. Thanks again to steve1066d for supplying the ongoing programming genius. All my ideas are public domain and free to use. https://www.y...

Re: Monson's Full Auto Scanner Build #5

Made some nylon straps to hold the book to the cradle. There's probably a better way to fasten the nylon fabric as well as a better choice for the fabric itself. Appreciate your opinions on this idea.
