Re: Platen: Glass or plastic
Mine is glass--just seems like the optical quality is better. I attached the glass to my platen with double-sided outdoor mounting tape--it's extremely strong and durable, and yet you can still pull it off (with difficulty) if you need to replace the glass. I see the benefits of plastic, but I still...

Re: Ryan's Stowable Scanner Build Thread
I'm guessing that the hub is your issue. You should be able to test it by connecting a USB cable to the USB port of your computer, and then plugging that into the camera. If the camera fires, it's a problem with the hub. If the camera doesn't fire, or does the same thing it's currently doing, then ...

Re: Ryan's Stowable Scanner Build Thread
When I was using it, it was mounted on the scanner with a book in the cradle, so it had a target.steveo1544 wrote:I've noticed that if the camera has nothing to focus on the camera may not trigger as expected

Re: Ryan's Stowable Scanner Build Thread
What happens if you press the button twice? Does once "arm" the camera, and twice "fire" it? The first press makes the camera screen go blank, and I hear several faint clicks from it. A second immediate press doesn't seem to do anything. It never does actually capture an image. ...

Re: Ryan's Stowable Scanner Build Thread
My USB trigger isn't working for some reason. I got tired of waiting for the LEDs to arrive, so I hooked up a halogen for some tests. I've got enough light, but the trigger isn't working right. I used this design , and everything is wired correctly. When I press the button, the cameras will focus, b...

Re: Post-it note page turner experiment
I wonder if one of these lint rollers would work better. It would keep its stickiness longer, and shouldn't be so sticky as to cause damage or make it hard to separate the page.

Re: Ryan's Stowable Scanner Build Thread
That is *art*! Beautifully executed. Hell, I could send you a couple of Crees just to get you going on things... you can mail me replacements whenever yours arrive. Thank you! It's actually a bit rougher in person than the pictures make it look. I had planned to add some other color to it, but I re...

Re: Ryan's Stowable Scanner Build Thread
Okay, I finally got some pictures of the scanner. The USB trigger isn't shown, and my LEDs still haven't arrived, so the light rig isn't shown, either, but everything else is done. The only problem is that the cheap drawer slides on the platen aren't very good--I'm probably going to replace them wit...

Re: The Lopsided Book Tower
The only problem that I had was that the trigger switch focuses and triggers. This is why I'm thinking of putting in a second switch to lock the focus in place so that I can trigger quickly without refocusing. It works perfectly, though, if you press the right button first and then the left. This i...

Re: The Lopsided Book Tower
How is your mouse switch wired? Could you post a picture or a wiring diagram? I'm currently using a single momentary switch, but I think a two-button switch might be better. Of course, I haven't actually used mine yet because I'm still waiting for my LEDs (I think I understand the "slow boat fr...
