Re: What is the best ADF scanner?

The ix500 is the latest model, and so is probably an improvement in various ways. The fi-5120c specification shows that it used CCD imaging sensors which are normally considered superior to the CIS sensors shown in the ix500 specification... Aw dammit, and I just got hold of a cheaper demo version ...

ix500 workflow. Scan directly to grayscale/bw or do it in photoshop postprocessing?

I've got an ix500, is there any benefit in scanning in color and then afterwords converting to gray scale/bw in photoshop vs scanning them directly in grey scale/bw using the scansnap software? I think it might be possible to achieve better quality if you do the post processing in photoshop.

What is the best ADF scanner?

What's currently the best ADF scanner in terms of quality? Speed is not *that* important (although flatbed scanning is waaay to slow...it does need to be ADF!), quality is what I'm after. Lots of people recommending the Fujitsu ix500...but is there a better scanner?

Re: Recommendations for scanning book covers/dust jackets?

Thanks for the advice dpc! Maybe I'm a bit late to this book scanning business it seems this forum was much more active a few years ago? Anyway, I'll start a thread or two in the destructive scanning section and see if I can revive some discussion there.

Recommendations for scanning book covers/dust jackets?

I posted this on mobileread, but didn't get any answers, so was hoping somebody here could help out. ;) Do you guys have any recommendations/best practices for scanning book covers and dust jackets? Do you just scan the front and the back of the book and leave it at that, or do you take out the dust...

Re: a small story for my scanner

This is just great man. 6 months? Wow, what a project! Much respect, I myself got fed up just trying the basic cardboard scanner (specifically after encountering the keystoning problem) and shifted to destructive scanning. Best decision I ever made. But one tip: stop with this "noob"...

Re: Best non-DIY book scanners

I read on LCD screens (IPS laptop screen, OLED smartphone screen) so I'll probably go with greyscale then. What tools do you use to convert to b/w? I'm using an ix500 to scan in color @ 600dpi and then use photoshop to up the contrast, convert to grey-scale and then adjust levels to achieve black te...

Re: Best non-DIY book scanners

Sounds about right - even for b&w text only I've learned it is indeed best to scan in greyscale and to take care first of all adjusting scanner options like brightness, contrast and gamma, especially with faded/yellowed pages, plus of course using a backing card when scanning thin paper with te...
