Daniel Reetz, the founder of the DIY Book Scanner community, has recently started making videos of prototyping and shop tips. If you are tinkering with a book scanner (or any other project) in your home shop, these tips will come in handy.

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

I'm going to try to "rough" mine together tomorrow to see how everything fits together. I'll have a camera set up so I can share what I did. (Then I plan to mark all the sides that need to be black, take it apart, paint the black sides and stain the other sides...)

Hello!
May I ask you the weight of the package?
Is it possible to get one in Italy (Europe)?
thanks!

Hi,
I am also very interested in getting one. I live in Belgium. Is there any update on distributing the kits in Europe ?
Thanks.

I live in Belgium. I've built a kit and will be selling full DIY kits in the EU starting by the end of next week. Stay tuned.

What Dan Reetz had to say about the quality of the parts:

In the mean time, feel free to contact me by email if you want to come and have a live look at my setup (Leuven).

Any news on that?
Sorry for the late reply. Yes. A very basic version of
http://diybookscanner.eu is now live. We have two options:
* base kit for 499€ (all mechanical parts, wood prepainted matte black)
* full kit for 799€ (base kit PLUS 2 preconfigured Canon cameras and everything needed for triggering them except a PC running Ubuntu or Debian)
Mark
P.S. A redesign for
http://diybookscanner.eu is coming soon. What's there is just "let's get this ready asap because of demand".
